I really think a large portion of the "not fun anymore" feeling is caused by the holes in the overall gameplay.
In the last build many of us found great enjoyment and a sense of accomplishment using the ISK sink that was Corporation Battles. We could put up a contract or take one and put our money where our mouths are. If we won it was a great feeling of accomplishment (especially if that Corp was "higher ranked" than us). If we lost we felt like someone kicked our kitten and we found ways to improve so the next time we could give them hell. Planetary Conquest was supposed to fill that role, and I'm sure it does to a point, but the problem with PC is that it is not for everyone (and that is great and how it should be). It is a mode where the best tactic is not necessarily to hold objectives for the win (kills off the MCC too quickly and that is bad for the attacker) but instead the attackers best tactic is to kill as many closes as possible rinse and repeat. PC is the corner of the sandbox where the big kids have their G.I. Joes, Transformers, and He-Men fighting "epic" battles while the rest of the sandbox is vastly undefined. You can dig and play in it but after a while you realize that there is nothing special except for the occasional "Gritty Kitty Surprise". Many of the mid-level corps are missing that little bit of excitement that we had and we don't really have a place to get better like we did in the last build.
Factional Warfare is a Role Players game that is just a glorified Skirmish with little to no added benefit to get involved in. It has longer wait times than skirmish, practically the same payouts as skirmish, and loot is no different. Why should a mid-sized corporation waste their time in it? So that leaves Pub matches....very fulfilling for a Mid-Sized tactical minded corporation (sarcasm).
The lack of balanced racial variation is another issue that many are having. I run a Heavy and I've seen all the other frames get goodies over the course of this game's development. What did we get? A game crippling nerf that sent all but the dedicated into the ranks of the medium frames (I'm fine with that to a point as well). CCP quickly dealt with that problem and we a thankful for that, but were is the love for Heavies and Lights? We want more than we seem to be getting and after a year SOONGäó is losing it's luster. There are huge holes in balance and counters that these missing suits, vehicles, and weapons are causing (see the TAC AR argument).
When they do add the rest of the content will we have to petition for another respect to get to our preferred weapons/suits? And IF CCP fills these holes in waves will we have to petition every time a new hole is filled? Does anyone else see how idiotic this can get and how frustrating for the gamer it will be? Get us the content in one lump and not SOONGäó but by E3. AS the beta has shown it all can not be tested and balanced properly until the cloned populace gets their augmented gloves on them to show where the problems lie. This is an FPS and portions of the EVE mentality do not translate well....yet.
I for one have faith that CCP is working on improvements and that the game will be fun again, but sooner is better than the current not fully known course for much of these issues. Three months is too long and six is even worse. The gimmick of 5/14 full release with no advertising was just one more bad decision in the development of this game especially with these huge holes that NEEDGäó filling.
