The commander surveyed his troops and reminded them to activate their inertia dampeners once they were in the air. The squad responded with silence, which the commander approved of. They might be new at this merc thing, but they carried the air of discipline that was the hallmark of all Amarr troops. At his command, the squad jumped through the airlock and hurtled towards the ground. The commander activated his dampener with only a few feet to go and landed beside his second in command.
*Splat* *Splat*
He sighed as the names of two of his squad rolled across his vision. He couldnGÇÖt be too harsh on them as he himself had only just got the hang of the dampener but it was valuable time wasted as his squad would be supporting the left flank of the push into the city. As they waited for the two dead squad mates to reanimate, the commander called up the RDV screen and put in an equipment request. The rest of his squad were doing the same and before long the sky was full of RDVs carrying the LAVs that would serve as the squads transport and weapon. As the RDVs were deploying, two of them came dangerously close to each other; luckily one of them clipped a building and blew up before it could bring down the other one.
GÇÿNot badGÇÖ, the commander thought. Usually in these types of deployments 2 or 3 RDVs bit the dust before they could successfully unload their supplies. Losing only one was a bonus. Once the LAVGÇÖs were deployed his squad loaded up and 10 seconds later, 5 LAVs were roaring off to meet the enemy head on.
GÇÿKeep it tight squad, donGÇÖt stop for anythingGÇÖ the commander ordered. He could see their fellow mercs on the ground leaping out of the way so that they wouldnGÇÖt get hit by the LAV squad, cursing as they leapt. The commander had heard it all before, he knew his tactic was unorthodox but it got results and you couldnGÇÖt argue with results.
GÇÿEnemy squad ahead commanderGÇÖ, piped up the lead LAV, excitement and nervousness creeping into his voice. GÇÿFull speed, remember at top speed their AV wonGÇÖt be able to keep up with youGÇÖ. This was mostly true, they were still susceptible to forge and rail guns, but the AV grenades that most infantry carried couldnGÇÖt activate fast enough to latch onto the speedy LAV. Even if one AV grenade did get through, it wasnGÇÖt powerful enough to get through the shields of even the most basic LAV.
In 5 seconds the LAV squad was punching through the ranks of two enemy squads who were on a flanking maneuver. 6 enemy soldiers were dead before they could even react. As the LAV squad sped past the commander ordered them to turn around and finish off the rest of the squad.
*Boom* *Boom*
GÇÿKeep going!GÇÖ, the commander shouted. GÇÿIf you stay still youGÇÖre dead!GÇÖ. Two of his LAVs were dead, taken down by unseen forge gun fire. The commander didnGÇÖt care, he had a job to do and one more pass at the enemy with his remaining LAVs should be enough to get the job done. 5 minutes later the enemy squad was decimated and the left flank was secure.
GÇÿSector is secure, squad is standing byGÇÖ, radioed the commander. |
