Perhaps check in the rookie forums. Most of the capability of your suit will be because of those other slots. |

In an actual match... imagine a tank with 4 hardeners, a DCU, a tracking mod and.... something....
Or a logi suit with 4 pieces or equiptment and a gun or something... |

Those are fitting slots for modules. Modules change the characteristics of your suit. Some increase shield or armor, some increase the damage of your weapons, or help you hack/run faster. A big part of the flexibility of your fit is tied up on which modules you choose in what combination. |

Please clarify what you mean by "spaces?"
Are there empty spaces in your weapon list, or do you mean the empty spaces in your suit when editing it?
I'm going to assume the latter, in that case...
H: Fill this with a heavy weapon module (Can also use L or S modules in this slot). L: Fill this with a light weapon module (Can also use S modules in this slot). S: Fill this with a sidearm weapon module.
The slots on the very left are your high module slots, these are typically shield related allowing you to recharge shields faster or have more shield points etc, you can also fit nifty things that boost damage, and a whole bunch of other things too, typically you should think of this as your "Extra Offense/Shield-Defense booster slots."
The slots on the very right are your low module slots and are typically orientated for armor repairers, more armor, and utility such as faster hacking/faster running/more sprinting/etc, as well as inserting modules that increase your CPU or PG (Power grid).
The grenade slot you should fill with grenades, AV grenades may seem to have high damage but it is practically impossible to kill infantry with them unless it literally is at their feet and is intended for vehicles, you also have normal grenades for anti-infantry and flux grenades which eat away shields.
Last, you have the Utility slots, to the right of your grenades and to the left of your low slots. These are your equipment slots, fill these with stuff like nanohives (Regenerates ammo/grenades within close proximity for ALL friendlies, higher level ones even regen armor), using rep tools to heal other vehicles/dropsuits damaged armor (NOT shields), Droplinks (creates spawn points), and other nifty stuff like remote explosives or the ability to bring your teammates back from the dead! Using the reppers/nanohives/droplinks will add warpoints when used btw.
There you go.

Oh I see now, but if a suit has low GP/CPU how would you equip them? |

Add in the low slots modules that increase CPU or PG. There are also skills that lower the CPU or PG of certain modules. I reccomend browsing the skill tree. Alternatively, use a better suit (will have some kind of trade-off such as more ISK cost or higher Skill Point requirement).
Also note that some modules that require more SP/isk then normal (skill points) will require less CPU or PG, while others will require more. |

Likely mere commentary on you being completely new and needing all the help you can get.
A word of advice, don't spend your Skill Points on anything until you get a feel for the game, for now just buy the militia stuff in the market as that requires zero SP investment and see what you gravitate towards. |

The best advice is always, join a corp. This game is infinitely better with friends to show you the ropes and squad mates at your back.
Also play around with all the free fits. See what modules they put on those, and try to figure out why they're there and what they do. |

Could've used that sooner Yesterday I dished out my 1mil SP on a sentinel and machine gun (loved that choice) and all assault rifles ( i kept getting owned with the Duvolle, so I got it too, isn't so great) |

There are several different types of slots. The slots on the left are high slots that can be used to fit shields and damage enhancers. The slots on the right are low slots that are used to fit armor plates and other bonuses.
The fact that you got a duvolle right away means you wasted all your SP right off the bat. You notice the Duvolle is very expensive and takes up a ton of PG and CPU- that's because it's supposed to be a weapon used on higher tiered suits. If you are only using basic or militia suits there is no way to effectively fit a duvolle because you won't have enough PG and CPU left for shield and armor mods.
Unfortunately for you, you wasted all your SP and are now stuck with crappy suits until you get enough to make up for your mistakes.
Basically, you wasted all your SP and you should put a ticket in for respec as soon as possible. |

There's a one time option to get all your SP back that you spent and respend it on other stuff. You just have to apply for it on the support area of the website. Go to the announcements page and find the sticky there that explains what you have to do.
Basically you just need to farm SP in your infinite militia gear until you get enough back to buy some decent dropsuit modules for your suits. |
