Hello there,
My name is Abu Stij and I'm a Goon. Scary, I know. However I have decided to confuse and confound you pubbies by working with my fellow Goons to give you a list of tools to survive in New Eden.
SHOW ME THE TOOLS!Calm down there young chap, there are dozens of useful tools out there and I can only provide you so much info, the rest is on you to go discover.
I suggest the uneducated DUST corps that have not used services outside of the game to start learning how to use them. Below I've also provided a link of other useful sites & programs myself and several other nice people agreed would be of benefit to you:
-
EFT (EVE Fitting Tool), a solid program to help you test and try out ship fittings (soon to be dropsuit fittings if/when they implement the data that's currently available) and fine tune the dropsuits capabilities to your specific needs. This tool is popular in EVE for its numerous options including the ability to determine effects from wormholes, gang bonuses, boosters, remote repping, and various other examples. While constantly expanding, its basic purpose is to find tanking, damage output, mining yield, and fitting limitations according to a specific set of skills that may be changed.
-
EVE Central, a site dedicated to tracking market data. This will come in handy once players can manipulate the market in DUST, and it already can provide you prices for items if you want to check.
-
Kugutsumen, an EVE fan forum that is pretty good for a variety of things such as the politics that play into the game, mocking of Sort Dragon's girlfriend, and a way to talk to non-corp/alliance members without being on the main forums. They even have a DUST section up.
-
NEOCOM &
AURA, two really solid and slick mobile apps that will, when CCP releases API keys for our DUST characters, help you track your DUST characters skill progression, track your assets, and check EVE Mails (currently you can't respond, yell at @CCP_Unifex that you want that feature on twitter. Mention "You Know Nothing Jon Lander" he love it). Why do you need to use these, well its helpful to keep track of what skills you have when not logged into your PS3, as well as it can let you get up to date info from your corp/alliance if a mail goes out. I can also only think that there will be a support feature to have a countdown timer for your next PC battles.

GARPA Topographical Survey this is something the boys back at Goon Central came up with and recently gave out version 1.9.1 for
free to celebrate 10 years of EVE Online. GARPA is GoonswarmGÇÖs R&D arm: they figure out how the game works at a detailed level and create tools for GoonSwarm Federation. GTS is a best-of-class tool to help players get the most out of EVE. Our Bees even spent time to
give you a manual.-
DotLan. DotLan is a useful site for those of us who have been playing EVE as well as shooting blues...err...reds in DUST 514. It provides tactical maps spiced with near realtime information about the policatal landscape, ingame activities and player groups. This system can show you how to go from one system to another, as well as how many kills have been recorded in the area in the past 24 hours (see: Burn Jita 2 charts), it also tracks the size of corporations, alliances and more. What DotLan accomplishes is all done with data CCP has made available for sites like that to exist.
-
EVEmon. EVEMon is a lightweight, easy-to-use standalone Windows application designed to assist you in keeping track of your EVE Online character progression. For more specifics please check their
EVElopedia page. Now this may not at all be useful to DUST users BUT, if & when CCP ever decide to actually give us an API key (please do it soon), it wouldn't be too farfetch'd to think the developer would expand this program to be able to plan out a skill tree for your DUST merc and provide you a decent "Skillpoints Remaining" that you need to "farm" in matches.
NOTE: LEGAL MUMBOJUMBO SUGGESTS I TELL YOU THAT IF YOU DOWNLOAD EVE FITTING TOOL OR GARPA TOPOGRAPHICAL SURVEY, ONLY USE THE LINK I PROVIDED. THESE ARE THE OFFICIAL LINKS THE DEVELOPERS PROVIDED ON THE EVE ONLINE FORUMS.There are many many more sites and programs, so if you're in a group with some EVE players ask them what programs they use outside of the EVE.exe program.
