Yeah... i was in the process of building another batch of logi dropsuit fittings, because i got them nice proto repair tools, when i couldn't duplicate fittings anymore and was instead greeted with this nice message: Quantity of custom fittings has reached upper limit.
Really CCP? Really? REALLY?
Please tell me there's a really really good reason for only allowing 30 dropsuit fittings.
One reason would be because every fitting requires like 500mb on local hd space and you wouldn't want to burden peoples hds more then you'd need to or something...
But in this day and age i really can't figure out why there would be even a restriction on fittings. What do you need to save per fitting? Like 19-20 ItemIDs from the database and a name? Thats what 80 bytes for the IDs and another like 40-160 bytes for the fitting name?
And even if you'd have to restrict them... why 30? Why not 1000? Even with a restriction to 100 i could live, tough i'd most certainly hit that cap rather sooner then later.
This just blows my mind...
And yeah... i like having that many fittings. My base logi fittings usually have a certain loadout on the equipment side (like repair tool, nanohive, injector or RT, NH, Uplink or RT, NH, Active Scanner, and so forth) and those base layouts vary in weapons carried, grenades carried. And those fits get varied in price so i have those fitting types as cheap militia fits, less expensive pub match running in squads fits with advanced gear and more expensive fits with proto stuff, and so forth. I already have 25 logi fittings and was in the process of making another 6-12 ones... and now i'm kinda annoyed. |

This comes up for me every once in awhile. If you only have a couple suits, it's not too bad. Unfortunately, if you thought it was cool to have heavy suits, scouts, a variety of logi loadouts, and some assault... you hit this limit really really quick. It decreases the value of having alternate and/or special suits because you don't have room for them in your fittings. |

Nerdism i guess.
As of now i have 27 different logi suit fittings, and three cheap fit AV fittings. And i already deleted a bunch of my logi fittings because of that cap.
@Zeylon Rho Yeah... i may be weird with my 27 (and even more in my mind) logi fittings... but people will run into this constraint eventually when they start to get into other roles that need different suits and fittings.

I don't think it's weird at all. I've hit the limit multiple times now (before and after uprising). The merc-pack type content gives you access to very affordable fittings for scout/assault even if you run logi. Logis can run many different combos of equipment (you might have many combos of rep/nano + whatever, demolitions in all three slots) and weapons (you can only carry one after all), and suit quality. Add to all of that neo or militia heavy fittings to run a forge gun...
30 is very easy to hit. |

I'm going to have to say no, even though I disagree with myself.
I had around 40 fittings myself. This was either because a 30 cap wasn't in place, or I had managed to find a bug that allowed me to have more than 30 in the chromosome build. How I knew a 30 cap was in place was one day I wanted to make a fitting and I wouldn't let me. I believe you could bypass it by duplicating a fitting and then editing that fitting, which was fixed pretty fast.
By the way, once I got that message, I remember counting how many fittings I had and if I recall correctly, I had 33 or 34 fittings. (So yes, I know you mindset OP, as I do the same thing. [:D])
But the reason I say no is this: I was guaranteed the last person EVERY SINGLE TIME, to load into battle. The old system of loading fittings was pretty cumbersome and the more fittings you had, the longer it took to load. You became awfully familiar with the loading circle.
Since I now I'm not only person out there that dabbles in different particulars of my suit, I would like to get your ideas: What about a folder system or ability to show different fittings during different gametypes? "Folders" would be nice because it adds another level of customization and allows me to group certain fittings together to select them faster (yes, you would press X more, but it's much better than scrolling down a huge list of fittings). The only downside is that it may be a bit too complex for newer players to figure out and may, in the end, prove to be more cumbersome...
Another thing would be showing different fittings during different gametypes. For example, if I queue into Ambush, it will show me only certain fittings I have selected to be shown for that gamemode, let's say, my Assault fittings. However, if I queue Ambush OMS, it will show my Heavy and anti-armor fittings. This again adds complexity as you would need a way to flag which fitting appears in which game mode, and one problem that could be circumvented (being locked out of a fitting you might suddenly need given the situation) would be to implement a way to see all your fittings, regardless of game mode.
Finally, since this is on the PS3, I was wondering if there was a way to allow our fittings to be imported and exported. Ship fittings in EVE Online are able to do this, but why not in DUST (other than the obvious: lol-you're-on-a-PS3-not-the-computer)? But with a companion app for the Vita to allow us to change DUST fittings on the go, and the eventual implementation of the CREST API that CCP wants to give us, I don't see importing/exporting being a pipe dream....
Anyways, I think I derailed your thread enough OP. But since I found someone else who shares my mindset (MOAR FITTINGS! xD), I figured I'd bounce some ideas your way. |

O.O the second you said Kaze Eyrou wrote:"Folders" I immediatly thought:
Have a (max?) amount of folders (10?) with say... a 50 fitting cap each, you select which folder you want to fight with while in the War Barge or MQ (in case you join mid-battle and skip the War Barge), once you join the actual battle then you are unable to switch folders but can change your fittings the same as always.
You would also be able to favorite a folder so if you don't select one then that is the one you use for the match.
Not sure if I would like this or just simply not having a cap (or the cap being raised much higher), I personally haven't hit the cap yet but I havent remade all of my fittings from Chromosome yet. |

@Kaze Eyrou
Saying "NO!" because CCP didn`t get it working with reasonable performance on the first try is the wrong way to go. Because if the performance sucks with a greater number of fittings because the code is crap, slapping that foo into folder will most certainly not help. And artificially limiting the number of fittings is bound to annoy people in the long run.
You have to say "YES!" and CCP has to get this foo right in every way. And perhaps they did speed it up significantly with uprising, but we don`t really know because this limit is in place.
Nevertheless possible performance problems don`t make this request invalid. CCP just needs to get those problems sorted as well as increasing or getting rid of that limit.
That said, i like your folder idea but i wouldn`t slap it onto game modes. That's just too limiting because i`d organize my fittings in roles (logi, vehiclesuits, av, killing) rather then game modes. And i`d not change the selection of fittings on the deployment screen much. Just add the folders on top or bottom besides other fittings. So you could have some standard default fittings you use all the time and specialized foo in the folder structure. New newbies would be harmed this way ;)
Regarding that Export/Import fittings thing. CREST will be able to manipulate fittings, if 3rd party devs will be allowed to do that is the other question. But if they are i don`t see a problem importing/exporting fittings to a external fitting tool.
But i have the feeling you`re trying to come up with a way to get more fittings that wouldn`t be a performance hit on the client or easy enough to use. I say get rid of that notion... CCP has people that get payed to think up ways to make this UI usable (i know doesn`t really looks like it) or to program that foo so that it doesn`t impact performance. You would at least think that.

I'm with the OP on this one. Also CCP can we get some kind of "folder" system for our custom fittings. Especially for us logi guys like myself and the OP. Just for my top-of-the-line logi suit I have 3 different sets of weapons, and for each of those, several different equipment loadouts. Of course as they add more equipment, I'll just need exponentially more fittings and a better way to organize and access them. |

This holds very true for scouts, too. That upper limit is causing me some headaches, and we could super use a folder system.
Those accordion style folders in use everywhere in Dust right now would work great; port that code over too the fittings (and up the max fits) and you could help out a lot of players. |

And artificially limiting the number of fittings is bound to annoy people in the long run. Well, I wouldn't say "performance sucks with a greater number of fittings because the code is crap".... heck the longer or more you have of ANYTHING, the longer it will take to load. Doesn't always mean it's the code...
In any case though, I agree with you wholeheartedly. We shouldn't be limited to 30, and limiting fittings will annoy some people. Two that I know for sure is OP and me. *highfives OP*
I can never have enough fittings.
To expand on my idea of the "folders" system, I had something come to mind. When you hit [Square] on the spawn/deployment screen, this expands the window and you can view you fittings. Well, let's bring the left and the right buttons into play. Instead of just going up and down, why not move left to go to the folder structure? I believe this could be easy to integrate into the UI and easy to code (but of course, I'm just speculating), and the idea of going left and right to view "folders" would be easy to grasp for people, not to mention, we already have something like that via the marketplace.
To do an example, let's say I have my fittings in folders by dropsuit size. I'm currently on the deployment screen and my current fitting is an Medium Frame suit. But now I want to spawn into a Heavy suit.
I press [Square]. Fittings comes up (just like we already have). I press [D-pad Left]. The folders come up. For my example, I have "Light", "Medium", and "Heavy" folders. I go to "Heavy" folder and select with [X] or I can also use [D-pad Right]. My Heavy suits appear. I select the fitting I want using [X] (again, functionality here remains the same/as is).
What do you guys think? |
