How does it work?
Does it add 1% to the module, making it 17% for the complex?
Or does it add 5%to the end of the module, making it 12.5%?

I am under the impression that the initial 1% under core skills that get you "into" the kin cat line gets added to your base.
Then the % applied to the Kin Cat mod line affects the modules percentage, not the base.
Please realize I could be 100% wrong, this is just how I assume it works.
I also may have not understood what exactly you were asking.

so i think if you had that skill to level 5 and you had a proto kin cat, 12% then you would have 17%. |

1.12 x 1.01 = 1.1312
1.12 x 1.05 = 1.176
At level 1 it's 13% and at lvl 5 it's 17% (might get rounded to 18%, not sure) |

The prerequisite skill that is 1% per level does indeed work towards the base skill.
The skill to use kin cats reads +1% to kinetic catalyzer module efficacy per level, so at proto level, you get +5% module efficacy.
I'm assuming that it works out like .12 + (.12*.o5) = .126
That is so.... underwhelming. |

I couldn't supply an answer I felt comfortable saying this is how it "works" for certain. This  has been on my mind lately too, and I have looked for a definitive answer but have not found one yet.
After my respec I am switching to Min Scout and have been attempting a little research in this area.
The scout may not be the best "class" but after making an alt with only 500,000 SP it was the most fun I have had playing Dust.
Hopefully a friendly scout that knows for certain how the Kin Cat modules work will stop by this thread.

going from lvl 3 kin cat skill using an aurum complex kin cat to lvl 5 with a regular complex kin cats, my speed increased from 9.33 to 9.35.....
~.2% increase in speed.
So that means it's definitely probably 12.5% |
