I've noticed in a few games played that I was getting serious lag issues (nothing new) and the same guy was topping the opposition board.
I hunted him out the next match I saw him in and sure enough he was jerking side to side instead of strafing and my bullets were not registering at all. He was getting 4 on 1nd and still walking away with full shields and armour most times.
All in all if he can get away with whatever he's doing it's not an issue for me, just putting it out there for the community.
Anyone had a similar experience? |

Yeah, one match I was able to walk around while everyone was frozen and I could kill anyone who was still standing, so I don't know if the same guy might have exploited this. I find it unfair. But other than that it has been lagging a bit lately. |

I have my own theory :
CCP is ninja testing NPC's for PVE.... have you seen some of the names in the pre-match board ? Also the way that people seems to mysteriously appear behind you, and shoot you down ?
Or maybe is just me been paranoid .... or do i ? |

I never said he wasn't a good player did I? He was actually very skilled that had nothing to do with it. |

the game servers sync are bad and some times sync to the person with the highest(worse) ping thus giving anyone near his ping(and him) a clear cut advantage over everyone else. |

They can do all sorts of things. The main one is freezing time ingame and unfreezing it very rapidly. It causes you to kinda phase in and out making it really hard to kill or even be seen sometimes. Not that clued up on them myself but come across lots of people who've used them in my time. |

there's also a common framerate problem when trying to track a target at point-blank. they seem to stutter-skip when they strafe rather than move fluidly making it hard to predict.
Also I have had issues with the Forge Gun charging animation causing my framerate to turn stupid, causing things like stuttering dropships and such.
These problems are consistent enough for me that in order for me to buy into OMG LAGSWITCH! theories, everyone would have to be using them.
or CCP hates me and has nerfed me. |

From my understanding a lag switch either interrupts server traffic or floods it with datacausing everyone but the lag switcher to slow down as the server catches up but everything I know about such things states that a lag switch should not work in games with an online architecture like Dust |

By flicking your connection off and on.
I'm not sure exactly, like I said not used one.
To people that say they don't work on dedi servers. Lag switching started on Counter strike. CS was/is a dedi only game. Explain your reason they don't work on dedi servers please. |

curiouser and curiouser....
You mean they are ninja testing beast NPCs who can move so fast you can't shoot them and they can also walk away from any battle with full shield and armour.

Surely if CCP's servers froze time every time one of the 8,000 players had a connection problem the whole thing would just fall apart?

DUST operates under a single server that is only controlled and managed by CCP. It is more than just a dedicated server. The tranquillity server is basically the whole universe that Eve Online operates.
Lag switches only work best when you have control of the server. They can still work in servers like tranquillity but using the switch on something as complex and huge as tranquillity will result in detrimental side effects for the person using the lag switch and ultimately force a kick-from-match from the user. On top of that, the tranquillity server does all of the calculations which means that the client that is on your PS3 is only handling the graphics portion of the game.
One more thing to more. Any attempts to manipulate the information flowing between the client and the tranquillity server is considered a very big offense and an exploit to CCP which will result in a permanent ban. Also, the server tracks and cross references data between the client and server for any inconsistencies.
So no, lag switches don't work in a practical sense. |

Ah, good you just clarified how unintelligent you are.
I play with and against most of the most skilled players in the game. Generally on the US region from the UK and I haven't come across anything like this before.
So you had no evidence and it seems you are wrong. And so am I to some extent. Or am I....
If must have been a really bad server translation or severe lag that just happened to give him an advantage. If as the above poster stated they really won't work. |

The evidence is how unfeasable an attempt at a lag switch would be, and your inability to realise this. You're also committing a logical fallacy called begging the question. I believe someone else on these forums recently posted a list of fallacies, that one's likely to be among them. |

No. A lag switch momentarily disconnects the owner from the network, and then reconnects. This can happen several times a second. This makes the lagswitch owner lag to other players, thus making the owner harder to hit. This doesn't really work in a situation where the server authenticates everything, like Dust.
This is my understanding. |

Correct. The tranquillity server cross references every bit of data sent to it but it still does all of the calculations. This means that if I enable a lag switch to shot around a wall without exposing myself and then get back behind the wall and turn it off, the server will tell me "Sorry, your data is inconsistent with what was seen from our end. You shots will not count".
Well, not in words but the server will tell me by simply ignoring my shots. |
