I had expected a meh piece of tech and was somewhat underwhelmed. On the other hand i'm somewhat skeptical of this next console generation. |

Microsoft, just in case you're listening, help out the gaming industry and keep on doing what you're doing. I don't think Microsoft is all that interested in supporting the gaming industry right now. They seem hellbent on getting a foot on markets they lost for good years ago.
I'm actually hoping that the linux hype miraculously takes off this time because gaming is the only thing they still have an iron grip upon due to directx. They don't deserve this position anymore.

Rynoceros wrote:The next gens all look terrible. Every generation has marked a new advancement in consoles. From 8 bit to 16, from cartridge to disk, from DVD to Blu-ray and wireless controllers.
But, there will be stabbings at Wal-mart during Christmas over the first run, overpriced, prone to fail units. The Xbox One and what little could be seen of the PS4 outright scream heat issues, literally half the console is a venting area.

The Xbox One and what little could be seen of the PS4 outright scream heat issues, literally half the console is a venting area. That might actually be a step to solve the heating issues the last gen had. The PS3 barely has any air intakes and it runs pretty damn hot every time I turn it on. I'm really afraid these intakes represent the bare minimum of what is needed to get this revision survive the guarantee period. Intakes usually weaken structure and need more/stronger material to keep the box from breaking. This is often expensive and manufacturers are often hesitant to pay more than needed, even if it's just a few cents per unit.
We'll see if microsoft and sony are genuinely fed up with machines breaking earlier than necessary but i try to maintain a skeptical/pragmatic position when it comes to corporate decisions. |

If I'm being ignorant then please, forgive me and be gentle, but don't Sony have a lot of uh, holding, or stock, or rights or whatever with Blu-ray? wasn't that the problem with the 360 - that they wanted to put an add-on Blu-ray on it but couldn't because Sony wanted a shed load of cash to allow it? Again, sorry if I'm wrong, the conversation was a loooong time ago with an Xbox fanboy. (you reading this heartbreak? ha!) Sony gets royalties for other manufacturers granted permission to build the base tech of their device and pay licensing fees likely to stamp blue ray and keep in standards. Think of it this way. For every xbox microsoft sells. Sony gets 5$ of it or something like that. That's the sole reason why Microsoft wanted the HDDVD in the first place.

Synthetic Surrogate wrote:Microsoft is obviously trolling the entire gaming industry with this new system. Trolling independent developers must have got old, so they are now going after the whole sha-bang this year. EDIT I still feel as if this whole thing is an odd joke.. Like at E3 they will be like "Just kidding, here is the real one." Mircrosoft is trolling not only the gaming community but also their entire corporate costumerbase and the vast majority of their manufacturing partners. One could argue that big MS is eagerly working on alienating all the customers that secured their quasi monopol over the (yet) largest segment of the IT market.
