Make it a % of the suit they hit so two shots are required to down an enemy. 3 shots for the tactical. The only one hit kill should be a head shot. I cant complain about a skilled head shot but running a scout suit is even less viable if I get dropped in one hit. If I don't take cover after the first hit I deserve to die.
Perhaps it would take three body shots to drop a heavy and 4 with a tactical. Opinions?
They may be one shotting you but they're doing feck all for their team. I imagine you went on to win the game? The thing with snipers is, the absolute worst way to play them is to sit up in the hills shooting random guys and the best way to play em is as squad marksman.
There does not need to be a damage alteration, but instead a reason to get the snipers to fight as a team. Everything about Dust focuses us into fighting as squads. Shared WP rewards, spawn points, ammo supplies, repairs, everything... what does a sniper bring to a squad based game?
Nothing.
Anything they can do, someone else can do better. The damage they put out is fantastic, and as much as I hate them they _NEED_ to keep that, because it's all they have. I mean hell, if the guy hit you in a scout suit from the hills, he's a good shot, if the guy hit you from less than 50 meters away he's a good marksman. The problem is not the guns damage, it's the way they're played, and CCP need to at least find a way to make snipers work in and with squads, they don't need to alter their damage.
(I can't believe I just typed that... some may remember may rants about snipers from the closed beta. I'm not a fan) |

END RED LINE SNIPING Have you read some of the replies to your OP? Have you read the responses to Rachoi's added argument? If yes, why are you ignoring both? snipers back in redline rarely have good enough ov a veiw for what i and others have said i'm afraid >...> I agree and those are often greated with subbar WP rewards(as they should). I rather took issue with his first paragraph. There's a number of classes and playstyles i wouldn't expect to capture points on a regular basis and his remark seems dismissive of the concept of varying roles working toward a common goal. agreed, i know snipers that might not be grabbing points, but will tag a tank so we dont get blindsided, need to keep the idea that snipers have value, when they act as Overwatch, and Recon
Am I the only person who plays an Assault Suit, covered in dampners equiped why my good old Covenant Sniper Rifle, and am right on the front, right next to the heavies and TacRS?
I've finished top plenty of times by playing this way, poking my gun over the top of steps, tucking into tight corners, looking for the weak and wounded or the logistics suits. I prefer to get stuck in right on the front line even with a sniper. It's like people don't know how to respond when they bump into a marksman so close to them.
It's good fun. And in my opinion I do more for my team than any guy on a hill creating an artificial killbox, or spotting the occasional tank. And god don't get me started about redliners. |
