Welcome to DUST 514. I am glad that you also find enjoyment in the game.
I started two weeks after open Beta started so my Uphill Battle was not as vicious as yours but I can sympathize. Even worse is that I wasn't 'lulled into a false sense of security' with the Academy. I knew immediately what it was going to be. I cannot imagine how tough it is for you. Even even worse is that the SP price increase is doing exactly what I was afraid it would do to newer players. There area couple things you can do so the stacked deck is not too brutal.
As the above said, figure out what you want to do and stick to that role. What is going to happen is the guy that focused on X three months before you focused on X is going to beat you at X now. In another few months, you will be just as good at X but he will also be able to do Y. This is how you catch up: you may not be able to do as much as him but I can definitely be just as good at one thing.
I do not mean this part as an insult: get better at the game. I have seen players goes full Militia and do pretty nasty against people in Advanced or Prototype suits, providing they weren't Tanks. If you can be flat out better than the other guy, get that 'Game Sense' going where you just KNOW what is going to happen before it happens, you can beat him.
Super +1 on looking at the Warbarge screen (that is Start + Player List or Escape + Player list, stupid broken Tab button) and seeing what you are facing. Make a note of corporations that play overly well with each other. If you are facing that squad and know that you are just going to be stomped to the point that it is not fun, leave the battle. Don't do it all the time because losing is not what is annoying, it is the feeling of "I cannot do anything as this team goes 40 and 0."
Get on the Corporation Recruitment page and just say "Hey, I am new at the game and I am looking for a bunch of chill people to play some games with and have some laughs." There are many of those types of Corporations. DUST University (and it's EVE counterpart) will always have a special place in my heart because of what they do.
Be well. |
