Since friendly fire is being instituted, and since certain situations/tactics/maps can make friendly fire at best a nuisance, and at worst, game-breaking, I have a suggestion: Create a Friend or Foe Firing Limiter line of modules that cause your weapon to stop firing whenever your targeting reticule is on, or passes over friendly forces.
Have them require a lot of CPU like a code-breaker for realism, and so that people or squads using them will have something of a fitting disadvantage in exchange for the bonus of having their weapon stop firing whenever a friendly crosses your line of fire. That would limit game-breaking fits, and the effectiveness of the massed-fire tactics in tight quarters that it would primarily be used for to a great degree without also making it useless.
I know EVE pilots, having been one myself for a few years. They will not create sprawling industrial landscapes, as CCP clearly seems to be envisioning, based upon the maps they've created for us to play on so far. No. What they WILL create, are super-dense, highly compact, strategically placed, heavily fortified centers of production. And we are going to have to fight from, and within them. That's going to mean narrow firing lanes, tight corners, etc.. Having the option to limit the damage your team is doing to itself in those situations would be invaluable. Even if it comes at a price.

sounds like a plan actually, like a it interrupts fire when you're pointing at a friendly? or something else possibly? |

The interesting thing, is if someone ran across your firing line, maybe catching one bullet (surely it doesn't respond instantly), and stops firing for a few ticks, you'd actually lose out on potential damage you could inflict on your enemy target. So in some ways, that would balance it as well.
You get a n00b-lock on your gun, but it sacrifices some of your leetness along with it. |
