While starting the match you could basically invite squads to join and in that way enter as a full team. Once it's been finalized by the person starting it, it could then appear in the mercenary tab.
So you're basically saying that we could directly attack specific districts and then force a defense or else we just burn through the objectives unopposed? I would love to be able to do this. It would also be cool if we had options to participate either as "soldiers" of a particular faction or as true mercenaries. I think the difference (in this case) would be that only "soldiers" could initiate attacks on enemy districts though both could defend.
Here's how I picture it:
We're a Minmatar Militia corp, with appropriate numbers (minimum 1 squad of 6), we can initiate attacks on any enemy Militia held District though once initiated, it needs to be seen through. We can bring along non-Militia affiliated merc associates as well as "allied" Militia soldiers. We have these options available to us through either the star map or through a new option on the FW tab of the Instant Battle menu "Minmatar Militia-- Initiate Attack". If a defense is necessary for the Minmatar Militia, we can also join these battles through either the star map or through a new option on the FW tab of the Instant Battle menu "Minmatar Militia-- Defense". Any battles that have been successfully initiated by fellow members of the Minmatar Militia will also show up in the FW tab of the Instant Battle menu (this option isn't available for non-Militia affiliated mercs).
Anyone who wanted to join an attack already in progress would need to be in the attacking Militia (though could bring along anyone who wasn't a member of an enemy Militia) and would need to be approved by the initiating SL (similar to a fleet advert that required permission).
True mercenaries would see the FW tab a little differently, they have only the option for "Accept Defense Contract" which would throw them in on the defending side of an ongoing attack.
Whichever side is defending should have all battlefield assets to begin with, though to simulate surprise attacks, they should also start spawning 30-60 seconds after the attackers. Defenders that are soldiers rather than true mercs would get the ability to place a single dropsuits worth of equipment on the battlefield before spawning (dropped using a UI similar to dropping orbs) to simulate familiarity with the battlefield and preparedness to defend it.
I hope that is at least somewhat coherent, I am half-asleep here. |
