This is really just a cosmetic thing but it's bugged me since Uprising launched. Now that we have more racial dropsuit variations, why is it that they are all using the same dropsuit OS? I mean, using the only logical example, computers from mainstream companies have a different OS than Apple computers. Further, neither mainstream OSes nor Apple's OS work very well on the other's hardware. So why is it that all of Eve's dropsuits run the same OS? Judging from CCP's choice of color coordination I'd say the OS on everyone's dropsuit is Caldari and the new wrist interface is Gallente.
Now, before anyone goes on to say anything about how this'd be stupid or how making one look different from another would give an advantage, the differences need only be cosmetic. But it'd be nice of there were slight differences, like;
Amarr: Given the smooth, round silhouettes of Amarr ships the hud, instead of being comprised of circles, could be quarter-circles that blend into the bottom and sides of their respective corners, and be a more red-gold color. The wrist interface could carry this over with rounded corners and little wheels on the right that you turn with a finger.
Caldari: Hud doesn't really need to change, it's already in the game. The interface, though, could be more angular, with the far side tapering behind the environment map and sliders for your finger to play with.
Gallente: The hud could maybe be like a bar equalizer with the peak representing where your at for the shields, armor and weapon. The interface is the one we already have.
Minmatar: The hud could be just a bunch of vertically arranged bars angled down towards the bottom middle. The interface could easily be the Chromosome interface as that had a nice Minmatar feel to it.
These are just idea and I'd more than welcome something better, mayhaps with art? I realize that what we have looks similar to what's presented in Eve, but in Eve your menu is divorced from that of your ships because, well... your ships are often more than just you in a capsule. In Dust, though, we're seeing the game through our clone's eyes. It makes sense that they'd have different huds depending on who made their dropsuits. |
