SP needs to be 100% passive. They way its set up right now adds a focus on grinding, eliminates incentive to play when capped, causes people who don't have time to reach their cap to fall behind, and encourages AFKing. (yes this is still going on) Everybody should be gaining the exact same amount of SP whether they have time to play or not. End of story. |

End of story. i'm not entirely in agreement, because then people would jsut.... sit, and find different ways of actually getting enough isk for their decent suits, there needs to be more insentive than the IGC, and the Sp allows for that... and the Softcap sure as hell doesnt hurt Having fun is enough incentive to keep me playing, even when capped. But grinding SP is turning into a chore making the only incentive of playing is to not fall behind. Also, its not fair for people that don't have enough time to play and fall behind because they can't reach their cap every week. It's like if you took a week off from WOW and not reach the same level cap as everyone else because you'll never get back the exp you would've gotten if you decided to play that week you missed. I'd rather play the game than have it play me. |

SGT NOVA STAR wrote:you know in EVE it takes 30 days PASSIVE just to get lvl 1 in some skills right guys? im tired of you new people that haven't even played the earlier builds. you know wat our soft cap was at one point newberries? 50SP!!!!!! so be grateful! if you cant play, you cant get your new suit or ar. if you suck at the game and work alot, chances are your not going to have the same SP as a guy that plays 24/7. welcome to MMO's I've played EVE for 5 years and can tell you that not everything in EVE needs to copy/paste to Dust 514. Also, how many MMOs do you know that actually prevent you from ever being able to catch up with everyone else because there's literally a wall blocking you that gets bigger the less you play. That's not an aspect of an MMORPG, it's bad design. |

If it turns to that, nobody will feel like they've "earned" anything and the advantages will lie with those who started the game early. No chance will be given to those who started late. New players can get an extra boost in passive SP like new players in EVE. After you get past a certain point (maybe 60 days) where you have enough SP to at least be competitive, you gain the same amount as everyone else. Having more SP doesn't make you better, it just gives you better customization options over everyone else with less. |

As a guy with a family and a small business it's cool when I get a block of time to mash out a bunch of games and see some progress. I've had an eve character for 6 months. All I do is manage his skill queue. If I thought it would make any difference in the speed of SP gain I'd actually play it. If there isn't a clear vision of how I can assist my dust character soon I'll quit the game. This game is an awesome concept and likely appealing to people who have responsibilities outside of video games. What about a more intense selection when you activate your passive SP. What if you had more options? What if you could choose a higher passive SP with a smaller weekly cap or a higher cap with slower passive SP? If all you're doing on EVE is setting your SP "torrent," then you're playing EVE wrong. Join a corp an null sec and have some real fun. Passive SP is something that needs to happen to eliminate the grind that's pissing off so many FPS players that don't play MMORPGs. |

I'm too busy grinding in Dust. You sir, have just proved my point in why Dust needs passive SP. |

End of story. ^this, though I believe that boosters should still be available 100% Passive would remove incentive to really run any games whatsoever. As it stands, ISK alone is not enough push to 'drive' me to game consistently. A healthy mix of the two is required to keep the most players engaged. That's because the rewards for every game mode are exactly the same. There needs to be a bonus to the winner, like more isk and better loot than the loser. Watch how many people actually try when they have something on the line. On top of that, they screwed the pooch on FW and merc battles too. It's just the same thing as a pub match right now. Those need to be adjusted to add more incentive. Grinding shouldn't be the only reason to play and it shouldn't replace content. |
