PC only
the field commander is in essence the same as an off grid booster in eve but with specific command over the battlefield with regard to his own team but on grid.
new items:
1) command suit skill and suits, 2) similar command link modules to eve ones, 3) deployable command post or vehicle 4) tactical command uplinks (cctv)
features:
1) specific role related boosting which is done via command suit modules fitted to the command suit 2) command overview interface provided by the command post interface 3) control over clone, resource allocation
aim:
the aim of the field commander is to control the combined efforts of all the squads on the ground by providing real time directions from his command post/vehicle and coordinating with the fleet's in space. he/she does this by highlighting objectives,targets and providing tactical awareness to his squad commanders and assigning orbital bombardments to his squad commanders. he/she does this by dragging and dropping icons onto his command map. this information can be seen on the hud of the team/squad/individual as the commander see's fit.
how it works:
the field commander is a corp only asset and is limited to 1 only per side. in the case of PC this person would be the one making the contract and therefore the one who really needs to be in command of what he wants. this allows the commander the control he requires to get the job done be that selecting good team members or kicking bad ones. the commander can create command suits that best suit his team's makup. he is unable to fit any offensive weapons and grenades as his uplinks take up too much pg/cpu
command post's/vehicles are hardened with good tanking ability but minimal offence. these are drivable by anyone but only a commander can call them in and only 1 or the other at a time. these are fit via the vehicle fittings menu.
command vehicle is able to fit decent amount of tanking modules at the expence of being extremely slow and has 1x 360deg top mounted turret of choice but has large sig radius. it is drivable by anyone but only the commander can use the command functions. this vehicle can carry 1 driver, gunner and the commander
command post is stationary but has a low profile and almost no sig radius. it has 1 top mounted turret of choice and doubles as a bunker 1 other person besides the commander can occupy it at the same time.
to help the commander there will be a new uplink module called the tactical command uplink. this module is dropped by anyone with it fit at strategic points(2 at any one time) and allows the commander to see the battlefield direct. these act like cctv and different versions have different abilitys such as increasing enemy sig radius or allowing the commander to pin point specific target he see's like the squad leaders can currently(a view from an advantage point might spot something a squad leader cant).
example of an attack:
on deployment the field commander quickly goes to work at setting up his command center, he activates his boosts and scans the field for movement while the whole team is burning towards the nearest targets. his team captures specific points and deploys tactical uplinks on spots they deem are possible weak points. all looking good he deploys team 1 to capture a ammo replen facility while he sends team 2 to capture another point. team 2 gets ambushed by tanks. reacting to this the field commander orders team 3 to assist team 2 while team 1 now at the ammo replen switch's squad members to anti tank roles. they move in and force the tanks to retreat. at that moment the fleet in space is ready for an orbital bombardment and the field commander assigns it to squad 3 commander who has direct sight to where the drop needs to be to be the most effective. he deploys it and the tanks are destroyed.....
thats just a few mins of a fight where a little overview of the grand scale of things can change the outcome. baring that in mind the enemy would be doing the same thing with his troops, setting up decoys while he attacks somewhere else. for the general squads on the ground its a case of captur as much as you can as fast as you can but sometimes in the grand scheme of things its best to let 1 point go to the enemy than to streach too thin and allow someone to sneak in from behind.

Sort of skimmed through so forgive me, but are you aware that there are the following features currently in the works
Crusader Specialization: This would be a new specialization branching off of the medium frame suit (so instead of Assault or Logi) and will be able to give buffs to nearby teammates.
MCC Command Skill: This would allow one person on each team access to pilot the MCC. The MCC pilot will be able to help move troops into position, give out orders, and send down installtions (like turrets, supply depots, and clone reanimation units).
And these would not be exclusive to PC. Is this essentially what you are looking for, or should I take the time to fully read your post? |

Everyone has had the idea for a field commander of sorts, but the equipment options you added are very cool. A couple of things to add: 1. The ability for the field commander to see the POV of any soldier 2. a compass for everyone so the commander can say, "enemies to the north." 3. The ability for the commander to set objectives for the team before the battle 4. The ability for the commander to set objectives for the whole team or for specific squads. |

i think my one is a bit more in depth into the command role rather than just general buffing randomers or moving the mcc about the map (thats what dropships are for). i do have some good ideas i think though so read away |

yes that was the general idea. while not specificly taking part in combat being able to juggle the resources and get the job done. i will add these points to the op
