Yep, a lot does feel wrong, has to be said.
Now CCP have done a lot right too.. let's not forget that... but, if ccp are going to notice the things which are wrong, then they need a wider audience to let them know.. then they can collate all the information together and hopefully make well informed decision on how to tweak things so that it will become a smooth game again.
Issues i've noted:
- Warping enemies: Characters will momentarily for a fraction of a second stutter forwards in whichever direction they are moving. This can be annoying when sniping as someone who should be moving in a straight path can be even more difficult to predict when stuttering/warping occurs. Note that i never saw this problem on the pre-uprising build. Perhaps the cpu cost of other functionality is cutting into people's network process? .. i know lag can be an issue for some people so before i get spammed with all those kind of replys, trust me, i'm not on about general lag here. :) There's only so much which can be done about lag..
- Aiming. I have mouse smoothing turned off.. now generally my aim is pretty good (not perfect mind), and i do notice that stutter as mentioned in the video too. Sometimes when you find yourself in a very CQC strafe war you'll notice the odd freeze too.. again, never used to happen Pre-Uprising.
- Squad orders with the mouse... well... Truely horrific, i have to repeatedly try over and over again to select defend and constantly end up with different selections. Pre-Uprising, this was a piece of cake.. 1 attempt was all it needed, now i'll have to try upwards of 15 times to select defend on the radial menu, but i'll get attack, or capture or rally.. it's truely insane.
- PC Battle.. now i dont generally experience lag.. and i dont believe the freezes i encounter and stuttering is lag based, i do believe it's FPS based, whether the load on the cpu or gpu is straining the amount which can be processed per frame is the issue or not i dont know, but do suspect that. (I'm no engine programmer but i do work in the games industry as a mechanics programmer so i can only best guess from what i see). Anyway i digress.. My point is a match today, first half i was fine, 2nd half out of nowhere.. it was like i was between 3-10 fps. It was a complete slideshow. There is no way that was network based, it was definately frame rate being effected.
My honest opinion (Which of course could be wrong), is that CCP, your pushing too hard with the processing. You need to reign it back and ensure the core functionality has time to get it's cycles in so that the 'polish' doesnt effect the gameplay. I understand you want it to look nice, but we dont still go back to old arcade games and play them for the looks, we return to them because the functionality works.
I also know that my PS3 was running fine until the patch on the 14th.. i updated, installed and ran the game. The instant i was into the game the fans went haywire and my ps3 cooked and died. I have heard of 2 other people also who had the same thing happen. This was on the original launch model, 60GB. I have since bought a new ps3 a superslim and am running the game fine. But i seriously do think your pushing the older architecture too much. As i say i'm not a core engine programmer, but i do think you may want to reign it back a little, at least to get it functional... then you can add polish to it again once it's stable and playable.
There's more issues of course but i've written far too much as it is...
Sorry to go on and on, just hoping to make some sence and hopefully help out, or at least give you some food for thought at what you could look into to improve things.. Though i say again.. I may be wrong.
Cheers.
