How people fly this crap ? I try and blow up about 20 without flying more than 100m. I love to see fly video of dev who designed control for them . |

Hi!
Please read this thread to seek advice on how to structure a post to get a better chance of having your voice heard when it comes to getting a better life for dropship controls!
Just making posts like these aren't feedback and are just complaints, and therefore provide no use to CCP as they do not know where to start, to improve dropship flying..
Thank you for your time reading this and extra thanks if you read the thread! |

what exactly is your issues with them? ive started flying dropships this build and the only things that cause me problems are being AV'd(those swarms really screw with u when they hit) and the horrible landings (shouldnt take any damage landing let alone 2k+ damage on a normal landing) |

The dropship controls are okay, I just think it drifts a little bit too much. As in, I will be perfectly level while moving forward, will pull back for an all ahead stop, and when I re-level, I will find myself drifting to one side. I correct, but the drifting gets worse before the thrust takes effect and starts countering that momentum.
I plan on mastering the controls, however, and if you want to be a dropship pilot I would encourage you to do the same. I don't want to be "good" at flying an incredibly valuable, useful craft that just anyone can drop some SP and ISK on, deploy and battle and do the same thing.
The difficulty of flying it is a plus in my opinion. It makes good pilots more valuable and it reduces the amount of dropships floating around in the game. |

I recommend following the advice of this thread for learning how to fly a dropship.
My experience with Uprising dropships has been good, but sluggish - standard dropships feel much heavier. One thing that the linked thread doesn't mention is the new transition mechanic - where the engines swivel into a forward-flight mode at a certain speed. I don't know the exact physics of this mode, but you really do not want to land like this. To switch back to hover mode, just pivot upwards to kill your forward momentum, then quickly level out before you plummet to your death. |

I use default controls, its not hard, really its not ya just have to get used to them.
Ya can play around with as many different control schemes as you want but ya still have to get used to it, I wouldn't be surprised if ya lost 20 more trying to fly. Give it time and 20 more ships. In the end its all you can really do.... Although my friend tried it once and never touched another. I tried it multiple times before getting used to it. |

The only thing I would change is the vertical camera position. It should look in the direction the ship faces by default and go back there after moving. |

If they would fix the vertical look bug I would give the dropship controls a 10/10. |

You really think so?
I find the new controls extremely loose and sloppy, like flying a boat. It drifts in all directions and even rides invisible waves when you point the nose up or down. The old controls felt much tighter and DS behavior was much more responsive. |

We are really talking about two different things, Dropship Flight Controls and the Dropship Flight Physics.
The controls themselves are great with the exception of the chase camera used in the third person view. That camera needs to be able to be inverted, and not to be auto centering.
The basic flight physics are also great. That is they model vector thrust physics very well.
The actual ship models themselves suck. They are all completely underpowered in terms of thrust to weight ratio. They take far to long to get moving and far too long to stop. That makes them far too vulnerable to AV when their chief defense is mobility. The low thrust to weight ratio also increases the likelihood of pilot induced oscillation. That is where the pilot applies too great a correction for too long because of the lag in response which causes a greater deviation in the opposite direction. This continues with the oscillations increasing in amplitude until it results in a crash. I believe the OP experienced this. The solution is to use smaller corrections and to neutralize the controls once the deviation has stopped, then apply a new small correction to return to the desired condition.
One thing the new ship model did improve upon was the engine tilting that facilitates fast horizontal flight without requiring the pilot to pitch the ship greater than 45 degrees.
To understand the new action you need to understand the physics of vector thrust. Previously the thrust would always come directly from the bottom of the ship. If you wanted to direct half of the thrust holding the ship up to making the ship move forward you had to pitch the nose 45 degrees. Now half the thrust kept you in the air and the other half now moves you forward. That's awkward to maintain, and it's even worse if you want more than half your thrust to speed you along.
So what the new action does is to swivel the engines rearward automatically when the ship attains a certain horizontal velocity. That allows you to apply most of your thrust in a horizontal direction while keeping the actual ship level. It's a nice improvement.
To get out of that mode all you need to do is slow down by pitching up the nose. The engines will swivel back down to allow control in a slow speed hover.
Please be aware that although the ship is flying horizontally much like a fixed wing jet, it is not one. It does not have a wing and you can't perform banked turns like one. See my flight guide for a more detailed description. |
