First off this is more of a review rather than any sort of rant so please get comfortable and take the time to read this, new players and veterans alike.
A bit about me, ive always been abit of a keyboard and mouse kinda guy and never really got on with a control pad, but due to a back injury i opted to pick up a console shooter and play from the comfort of my arm chair and dust would be that very shooter.
First day as a merc i was getting murdered at every turn, i thought well that's to be expected 'im a noob at this game' in time i will develop the skills knowledge and experience to overcome this and begin delivering my own retribution upon others.
The second day playing im still getting my ass handed to me and being aware that this game supports the use of the keyboard and mouse (apart from being able to configure keys of course) so i gave it a try and as expected my k/d improved dramatically but i wasn't about to give up on the ole pad just yet so i searched the forums and 'you tube' respectively for any help or advice and all i saw was people complaining about rolling back some patch / update or something. I took comfort for a short period in the hope that it wasn't me and was a Developer short fall but that will remain to be seen.
Nearly there folks stay with me...
Third and forth day i was back to using the pad having tried just about every configuration of button layout and sensitivity setting available and was still not having much success i was beginning to consider my future playing this game, until i saw you tube vid of guy named 'jonnypew' who displayed an incredible level of accuracy and he was clearly using a pad so i thought if he can reach that level of proficiency then so can i .....
fifth and sixth day of perseverance of using the control pad im doing well and by 'well' i mean im killing more than im dieing and im now having allot of fun. Of course as i play im learning the maps optimizing my fits and applying skill points responsibly.
The long story short:
If you have just started playing this game and are frustrated at being constantly owned don't give up keep going no matter if you get killed 10 times without killing anything you will one day be the person standing toe to toe with the mercs who were once killing you or delivering your own magazine of welcome to new edan upon the the new comers.
Thanks for reading see you on the battle field 07 |

Welcome to the wars! What was your experience in the Battle Academy like, as well as your first times outside of it? Do you think it's a good system that should be expanded on. Should it take longer to "graduate" or did it feel about right? |

I'm more interested in your experience after you leave the Battle Academy...Personally i think is an unbalance issue after that point, and i will love to hear your feedback. |

The time i spent in the academy allowed me the room to improve actually getting a mag off so to Speek and gave a small confidence boost if that matters at all so all in all i found it very helpful. Time to graduation yeah i would say it was about right for me. |

One more question ... Do you feel that should be a second tier of "Learning" after the Battle Academy, in which you are put against people with similar, or the same SP points as you are ? |

Tbh I assumed we would be bracketed according to maybe the SP we had or the quality of kit we where currently using but that cleary wasnt the case, hence the emotion week ive had getting to grips with this shooter ;)

Having known and played alongside the OP in BF2142 (and having similar feelings about that game myself) I can say its no small admission for him to say its tough as a newbie. In 2142 he was one of the worlds best 100 players while I was probably one the 100 worst!!
To all the new players who are having a tough time you can take solace in knowing that even a great FPS player struggles at times.
Also bump for a decent thread. |

Now we just need some MCC boarding mechanic so we can assault the power core in some tight hallways and hanger bays. |

Grats and thank you to OP for the feedback and taking the time to get into the game.
Hopefully you'll find this game as fun as many of us (not all) do. |

Just played 15 matches in the academy yesterday, it was very refreshing to see that it really is geared towards new players, granted I've already got my head around what to skill into first, and was pulling down 30-2 scores with nothing more than a GEK on my starter fit, it brings an actual challange to the game when everyone is more or less at the same SP range and everyone is using around the same tier of weapons/drop suits.
The aurum bought tank packs really dominate in the academy because nobody has specced out into any real AV yet. My message to the new tankers using the aurum tanks, don't get too comfortable in that HAV, once you get to play with the big boys, you can't just roll through the middle of the map without cover and expect to survive.
New players that are still figuring out how they want to fit their characters, think before you spend your SP, the rewards are low in the academy, especially if you aren't running boosters so every point counts. Stop shooting the MCC with your weapons, it does no damage. ARs, SCARs, SMGs, Pistols, and regular grenades will not take out a tank, when you see one, if you don't have any actual AV (even basic AV grenades work great) run, you won't win. Join squads in the academy, and if you see a player who seems to know what they are doing, stick close and learn. There are a lot of us "vets" who make alts to jump into the acadamy to try and help you. K/D is pointless to care about, especially when starting out, and stop asking about kill streaks and things that you are used to from COD (I cannot stress this enough, this is not COD and its painful to hear you cry about it on the mic)
Pay you're dues, grind away, get used to the game, things will get better. |

Data, I reckon those 30-2 scores are mainly due to your experience. The instants and FW battles are more competitive simply because you're fighting against people who have been playing this game for a while, and they're used to it, and they know the ins and outs. For example, you don't expect to jump into CoD and go 15/0 your first match.
Jus' saying.
Also, if you're experienced, I have no idea what you're doing in the academy. You're more likely to scare off new players than anything else. |

I agree 100% that my scores are related to experience. I'm not here bragging about killing noobs. I was in the acadamy creating squads and walking new players through the basics, tactics, lauout of the maps, and generally trying to actually help new players get into the game. |

Pub stomping gets boring, team stacking with your corp against a bunch of randoms loses its luster very quickly.
I had more fun teaching new players how to get into the fight, find a way up to a nice over watch on a map, and rain hell down upon the enemy team. Listening to one guy in particular who was raging on the mic when I met him in game, to laughing as he tossed properly cooked grenades into a mass of red dots and watching the corpses fly was definitely a highlight of dropping down to the acadamy and helping out. |
