is variety, strategy, and diversity suffering because of this problem?
"HTFU"!
CCP added "The Juggernaut, kills units by looking at them and steals all their ISK on death" ?
community response "HTFU".
The problem with HTFU as a reaction to things is that it discounts the possibility that this team of developers are human and thus prone to error. Obviously most people saying it are trolls but some I fear actually believe this nonsense of infallibility.
To avoid silliness I won't be posting anymore in this thread. I just wanted to say that if you think this game is perfect as is, and requires no changing because people need to htfu then Dust will be a very short lived business venture. People don't enjoy broken games. MMO creation is a process of constant evolution.
The second bane to MMO's aside form unbalance is staleness. Lets keep things fresh and fair.

Sadly, HTFU has become a cargo cult meme since people throw it around without any understandung of its original meaning |

HTFU is for people that whine about stuff that isn't game breaking, most likely their effective counter or working as intended:
"Omg! heavies are OP, I went toe-to-toe with one solo while inside 25 meters and he shredded me!"
HTFU!
"Bawwww! I can't kill this gunlogi with my militia swarms!"
HTFU!
"These damn scouts keep OHKing me with their shotguns!"
HTFU!
"Logis are stacking shield extenders and playing like assault+1s!"
lol, really? You want to nerf logis? ...I mean HTFU!
"The TAR is OP! People are using modded controllers and the hipfire spread is too tight!"
HTF- well, that one's actually an issue.... |

HTFU is a bad joke in many balance threads.
It's also a legitimate point when someone shows up commenting that something isn't OP when they can comfortably defeat it with the intended counter.
Like people complaining about LAVs, when I can kill a well-fitted Logi LAV without needing to reload my Militia Swarm Launcher. In that case, "get better at AV, HTFU" is a valid end to a post, because I'm explaining why, from the perspective of someone NOT running that gear, it isn't OP.
If someone's complaining that the newly-released Juggernaut is OP, and a guy says "herp my derp juggernaut not OP, I runing MLT herp Jugg and 4 proto forj gunnaz killed me once derp HTFU" then that's not a valid use for the term. And while not quite to that extreme, I've seen basically that kind of argument used before, so don't rule it out just because it looks too stupid to happen. |

I don't even know the "fake" meaning. Inside memes are the least amusing. |

Inside memes are the least amusing. Harden The Fu- Kitten Up is meant as a counter for baseless "i can't deal with the hardcounter to my tactic, therefore i assert it's OP" statements.
Around here it is often used as a sweeping denial of the bare possibility of something beeing actually OP in the likes of "You stating X is OP is always due to your inability to deal with it and therefore can be rejected as invalid without further consideration"
I am deliberately not mentioning any specific case as the decision where HTFU applies is often subjective. It's just the lack differentiation that i tend to see around here ever so often. |

But that's what STFU is for. Why would you need two memes for basically the same expression? Oh todays youth... |

Edit: For example i disagree with one point of Cosgar's examples but the HTFU makes further discussion difficult since it implies that any input i could provide to make my point is flawed due to me beeing such a scrubby scrublet, putting an unnecessary burden of proof on me.
Thanks for the info. I knew someone would explain so I can't choose ignorance anymore :(
I was having fun trying to guess what it meant too.
HTFU = happiness that finds u - suddenly the forums are a cruel and dark place. :( |
