Greetings and Salutations, I'm new to DUST myself. However, after several games in the training grounds I've started to notice a trend amongst a majority of my fellow newbies. They really have no situational or tactical awareness. Which leads me to ask a question of them, "Are you new to FPS game-play in general?" If so than it's understandable, I've always been of the opinion that ignorance should be corrected not punished. So I figure it would be a good idea to give a short run down of sound tactical advice, Here it goes. Bulletin Style.
1) Do not just stand around looking at how pretty the sky is, at best you are going to get shot, at worst you will get someone else shot.
2) When hacking or taking an objective do not just run up to it. Find a blind spot and crouch in close, if possible get on top of the objective and crouch down, most people only check their horizontal axis.
3) When deciding to engage in a firefight ask yourself these three questions, 1. How many of them are there? Don't assume that just because you only see one that there is only one. Wait a beat and track your target, a little patience usually won't get you killed, the lack of it will. 2. Where is my team? Even if you think your safe, unless your a bad ass ninja which, if your reading this for advice you aren't, don't take the risk. DUST unlike most games of this type has consequences for dieing. The more you die the more you WILL die and it just isn't worth it. So don't take the risk unless it's negligible, really negligible. 3. What kind of heat is your target packing? If you see a rocket launcher just walk away unless you can get right on top of him. Snipers are less effective at close range as well. Shotguns should be taken at a distance, and assault rifles are always a toss up.
4) Passion is the enemy of precision. It's easy to get over excited and loose focus, keep calm and carry on. The more excited you are the worse your aim will be.
5) Which leads us to aiming. Turn your x and y sensitivity up ALL the way. If it seems intimidating at first that's ok, you will adjust I promise. Once that's done you need to learn how to move properly. Practice sliding around corners, jumping off of obstacles while pulling 180 degree turns, aim at arbitrary points and try to stay tracked on it while maneuvering. The biggest help you can be to your self in this area is simply to get comfortable with your movement doing so will allow you to strafe circles around your targets instead of just running in a straight line at them.
6) If you didn't already know, you don't have to use the default controller config. Get into the settings and see what works best for you, personally I like to have R3 set for crouch.
If you can't tell the numbers are arbitrary, I'm just writing this as it comes to mind.
7) Don't just shoot at people just because you see them, wait until you have a real shot. Firing to early will cause minimal damage while alerting them to your presence, which will almost inevitably lead to an ambush situation. So wait until your sure of a clean kill, if you can't be then don't engage.
8) Stick to walls and constantly check behind you, any time you run past somewhere there might be someone hiding, check it out. Chances are if they are waiting to ambush you they can't take your assault rifle up close and personal.
9) Yes snipers are cool but most people can't shoot to save their lives, literally. Play at your skill level, start small and work your way up to the more "interesting" weapon selections.
10) As previous stated by the progenitor of this thread, PTFO. Failing to do so will accomplish nothing but pissing everyone off and costing you the match. Be smart, if you don't know where to go just follow the largest group of people you see. Everyone wants to be a Hero but it's fire superiority that is going to win matches, and it's backing your team up that is going to earn you respect.
I hope this helps somebody out otherwise I just wasted my time. |
