I wanted to get into eve so I downloaded the free trial to see how it would run. Its very slow and takes forever to do anything. Is there something I can do or is my computer just not able to properly run eve |

What runs slow? the download or EVE itself?
If EVE, probably a combo of your computer resources (especially RAM).

Dude try and get into the settings and set everything to low, see if that helps. I believe there is also a low graphical mode for when you run two clients to save on resources. Try and look for that and see if you get a perfromance boost.
Other than that a couple of extra gigs of ram like Chribba says should do you a world of good. |

EVE is more complex than DUST. First of all, if it's running slow, you can turn your graphics settings down in the EVE menu (push esc key to access). I'm running EVE quite smoothly on an oldschool Pentium with 6G of RAM and no graphics card (just the built-in Intel one) on the lowest graphics settings except for textures, which I have set to medium. It's not AS pretty, but it's still damn fine to look at.
The next thing you need to do is the tutorials, and career agents, while keeping an ear to the ground for interesting corps. My corp frequents rookie systems looking for new players to train and mould into godkings of EVE quite frequently (that is, the corp this dust mite of mine is a part of, UDHI), so if you're in the game, feel free to throw us an application and be sure to include that "Remiel Pollard sent me" in it. Being part of a corp makes the learning curve easier to tackle, because you can learn from more experienced players. Seriously, I've learned more from UDHI in less than a month than almost a year playing solo could account for. Only thing is, we won't take trial accounts, because we can't be sure you're gonna stick around. So if you sub, go for it.
After that... it's a sandbox. The universe is your oyster. One thing I would recommend, though. Once you get in, be sure to open your character sheet (alt-a), look for certificates in the scroll menu on the left of it, go to cert planner, core skills, and start training Core Competency - Standard ASAP after you've finished training into some of the free skills you get doing career agents. It makes ship fitting a lot simpler.
Also, at the top of the Forums here next to your name, there is the EVE universe drop-down menu that includes the EVE forums. You will have to be subbed or on trial to access them, but make sure you go to the EVE forums and check out the EVE New Citizens Q&A forum. |

click windows button or go to run in the start menu and type dxdiag. compare your specs to these.

Recommended system configuration for running EVE Online: OS: Windows-« XP Service Pack 2 / Vista / 7 CPU: Intel Pentium-« or AMD dual core @ 2 Ghz or greater which supports SSE2 RAM: 2 GB HD space: 20Gb Free Space Network: ADSL connection or faster Video: ATi Radeon 5750 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 Drivers: DirectX-« 9.0c (included) and latest video drivers DVD-ROM : 2 speed DVD reader or greater required.
Try hitting esc, going to display/graphics and on the right click optimize settings and set it to optimize for performance, if it still a bit laggy, try optimize for memory, or adjust the settings manually. If its still laggy you may not be able to play eve.
you can also monitor your FPS by pressing CTRL+F |

Thanks everyone for the help. The download of eve wasnt too bad its just as I was going through setting up my character it was a slow transition through everything. Its like my computer cant keep up. Like just enetering my name took forever. I think maybe turning my settings down will help alot so ill try to figure out how to do that. I dont know exactly how much ram I have but I know I have no graphics card or anything. Just a plain old emachines computer. |

Character creation with settings turned up can be very graphic intensive. you can lower these in the video/graphics tab as well, center column on the bottom. i recommend turning those down.

this will tell you how much RAM you have.

You meet the minimum system requirements. Im sure the biggest problem was character creation for you. As i said above, turn your settings down using the optimize button and you should be good :)
