Is it really meant to be an AV weapon? Swarm Launchers are the only "pure" AV weaponry so far. Forge Guns are primarily anti-infantry (if you read the description, and learn how to use them) but can also double as AV weaponry. I haven't tried out Plasma Cannons yet, but just reading the stats I got the impression that they were supposed to be "light Forge Guns" for light and medium frame fittings who can't wield a Forge GunGÇögood for pelting infantry with direct hits and splash and opening them up for quicker takedown by yourself or fellow infantry, or supporting other AV against ground vehicles.
That being said, my cursory glance at the stats of a Plasma Cannon do not appeal to me, and the fact that I hardly see them in action is an indicator that something might be wrong with them. My opinions thus far are all theoretical and based on the stats, so take this with a grain of salt. The splash radius seems too small for the lack of extra shots, warm-up time before shots, and limited ammo. The base damage seems too low now that all ground vehicles have been buffed, but it's sufficient to take out most infantry in a single direct hit. But its firing properties make it much more difficult to learn how to land a direct hit than compared to a Forge Gun, so it's down to splash damage, which is fairly low.
^ And something here needs to improve to make it appealing. Make the splash radius bigger, or increase the splash damage, or remove its warm-up time, or give it an actual clip and extra ammo cache. The combination of all these disadvantages makes you question why you wouldn't rather spec into Swarms or FGs. |

With all the new weapons, it seems like the weapon was over-balanced. I mean, they were to conservative with the balancing mechanics in the gun, like the heat build up on the SCR or the charge time/damage/reload/clip size of the plasma cannon, to the splash radius/range/clip size of the flaylock. |

If you can't finish off anyone with the weapon its not very useful. I feel like its already failing at being an anti-anything and CCP needs to change its stats so it can be used for one roll or the other.
Have you not tried it? You can really weaken enemies with the splash damage giving you a good head start when you switch to an SMG. I don't know, but I really like the idea of a weapon that isn't too great when by itself but offers a lot of versatility. I mean the STD does do 1000 damage, that can scare a tank off with a few shots if I run across one while at the same time provide something to aid my secondary weapon in infantry combat. If they forced it into one role it would lose what makes it special. I did try it and it doesn't do anything that a well timed grenade won't do only a grenade can occasionally get a kill or two. Plasma Cannon does more damage, has a chance to get a body hit instantly killing the enemy, and it explodes on contact so you don't need to waste your time timing. We clearly just have different playstyles, but it is much better than a simply a grenade. A mass driver can do all that and has more then one shot. Yes but a mass driver can't really double as an anti-vehicle weapon. Anyways I agree with you that the Plasma Cannon needs a buff, I just don't think many of the things people are suggesting are the right way to go about it. The charge-up time and projectile speed are both fine in my opinion. |

I haven't touched the Plasma Cannon, but I don't think the Flaylock needs a damage buff. It's quite lovely the way it is. |

In my humble opinion the plasma launcher is anti-installation and anti-infantry. It even says in the description that thismweapon is intended for "confined space combat", quoting the description. I think the reason why people hate it is the same reason why people raged on the HMG nerf, they are misusing the weapon and have no clue how to properly apply it.

The flaylock definitely doesn't need a buff, in fact I'm afraid it may get a nerf. Those things are awesome! The plasma cannon on the other hand? All CCP needs to do is look at the number of them bought to realize something is off. |
