Now that the LAV's use real physics, why don't we just continue this to make roadkills use real physics too? By no means can this game's balancing survive having our heavily armored and sheilded mercs, who can easily survive a 30 foot drop, die instantly the moment that a car touches them. And yet at the same time, it would just be stupid for a speeding jeep to even be brought to a stop by a single guy standing in the way, no matter how armored.
My solution is to allow for mercs to go bouncing off, over, and under the jeep during the impact: dealing damage(edit: to the merc, NOT the jeep) just like a freefall would, but still allowing them to walk away afterwards if they survive. This would still look visually plausible, as a speeding jeep would cause any mercs it hits to go rolling over the car or riding around on the hood until it stops, but one hit would no longer kill most of them.
They could probably just modify the current ragdoll system as well. Just make them go limp like when they get shot, yet leave the camera in place and then "revive" them automatically a second or two after they come to a stop.

I highly doubt our crush-able cans of a suit would cause any amounts of damage unless our own reactors blew when we die. Oh, no no no, I didn't make myself clear. I meant that the MERC takes damage but doesn't necessarily die instantly, but yeah the LAV takes no damage at all (I wasn't even thinking along those lines!)
So in short, jeep always comes away fine, exoskeleton-clad dude that got hit goes over or under the jeep, but doesn't necessarily die instantly. Hope that clears this up. |

Personally, when I wrote the original post I was just floating out another way of handling LAV's since I had seen other people calling the overpowered. Everyone else was saying that they could either leave them as is, remove LAVs altogether, or remove this game's only free transport (bad idea in my opinion).
I just thought the OP was another option that should be put on the table :) |
