I've loved Dust from the moment I started playing it, and have seen everything that should be there, be there. But I've always felt as if there was something missing. Something that has been bugging me for a long time. A weapon with an "afterburn" effect (continuously causes damage even after you've stopped firing). This game needs something that can really get under the skin of your enemies. They kill you, but the afterburn gets them from beyond the grave! This is why I've come up with, The Nanite Afterburner! I've taken some advice from my corporation saying that fire just wouldn't cut it, breaking the feel of New Eden, but, with the Nanite Afterburner, it will volley out a swarm of Hostile Nanites, which instead of repairing armour, it dismantles it. Of course with such a powerful weapon, there would also come penalties. The Afterburner could be a new Heavy Class weapon useful against infantry and vehicles alike, thus making it a slow-to-move-with weapon. The ability to use them would become unlocked once you reach a Weaponry skill of 5, thus taking a little while to access. The weapon would also have a tight learning curb, taking time to learn how to manuever with it and learning how to effectively use it. Also, the swarm would be visible on the target, allowing for teammates to take notice of it. Then, any teammate with a Repair Tool could use it to disrupt the Hostile Nanites, thus discontinuing the afterburn effect. The weapon would consist of a two-handed forge cannon with a modified ammunition tank fitted to hold condensed packs of inactive nanites. The weapon would superheat the nanites, awakening them and blasting them out in a semi fast volley that could reach from short to mid-range targets. Firing would be semi-automatic, but with an overheat regulator such as the HMG. Reloading would open a tank input on the top of the cannon and pouring small packs of inactive nanites into the tank, shutting it, and locking it. Damage would be decent enough to take out at least 20% shields and 30% armour upon direct hit on infantry. Splash damage would be tight and only deal 10% shield and 20% armour. Continuous damage would be slow when working on shields, at only 4 damage per second for 6 seconds. Armour would receive 8 damage per second for 6 seconds. Splash damage would inflict the same effect but for only 3 seconds. Direct contact on vehicles would cost them 5% shield and 10% armour. Splash would deal 2% shield and 6% armour. Continuous damage would consist of 2 dmg to shields per second and 4 dmg to armour per second for 6 seconds, 3 secs on splash. However, continuous damage would not kill the target, but would reduce it all to 0 if allowed, granting an instakill upon said target. Full default ammo for Basic Nanite Afterburner would be 20 per clip/ 80 per full ammo cache. Reload would go for 6 seconds and overheat cool down would go for 5 seconds. Firing rate would be at 10 shots per 4 seconds and then overheat. Accuracy rating would be 45.67. CPU would start at 34 and PG at 10. Initial cost would be 6,468 ISK with the skill to operate it starting at the default as for all weapon operation costs for Heavy Class weaponry. I believe that the Nanite Afterburner could be a great addition to the game and could come in handy in many situations. If you could please take my idea into consideration and leave your own opinion in the comments and please be sure to notify me of any revisions to the stats that you may have in mind. Thank you for your time. |

I like the idea of hostile nanites, though I thought the grenade delivery system that was proposed a few months ago was a better delivery system.
Maybe if it worked like a flamethrower spewing clouds of hostile nanites at everything within extreme close to close range that might work too.
Not a bad idea, just needs refined a little.
Hmmmm... not to sure about the flamethrower part, but grest advice. I just don't know since I'm always being criticized by the masterminds of my corp.
Still, nice idea. I would love it to be a flamethrower. |

Nice idea. You should suggest that to CCP. |
