So the skill respec will happen eventually and when it does we'll see more proto guys in the field than now. My concern is not me. Because most of this proto users don't know how to use their gear and end up getting slaughtered by other beta vets and are easy ISK.
My concern is the Newberries. Seeing now that they have an academy to practice and learn to shoot in but what happens when they reach the WP cap for the academy? Most of them won't be ready to compete against the beta vets and their powerful gear.
So I had an idea. Add "Militia Warfare" a game mode only limited by ambush and only using militia gear. Player created militia gear will also be accepted.
Since it will only be militia gear on the frontlines in "Militia Warfare" only tactics will count since no player will out match you by gear. This will be a great add-on because it will help newberries get good gear without the endless slaughter in pub matches.
I also like seeing this as a substitute to PvE because you can grind ISK here (but since you'll only be killing militia gear the ISK payout won't be as high as in normal pub matches)
This is an idea tgat occurred to me last night before I went to sleep
I have doubts that you will agree with me but I thought I might share it here |

Since not all weapons are available as MLT variants it should be STD level warfare, but otherwise this a solid suggestion that actually has been posted a couple of times already. That doesn't make it any less relevant though. |

Exactly. And like I said, the earnings won't be as high as normal pub matches. |

That's the thing. This is not a place to test out how weapons will work. Just an easier verion of pub matches. If trying out new gear is a concern of yours you'll be happy to hear that CCP will add a weapons lab (shooting range) to test out gear in the far future |

They wouldn't have 3 more highs, 2 more lows, and double CPU/PG though. They might still reign supreme, but the noobs will have a chance. That's all anyone wants, is a chance.
The new player experience is horrible. |

Are you stupid or do you suck at reading?
I said that the rewards should be lower than average pub matches. Say if you earn 200k ISK per pub match, then in Miltia Warfare you should earn 90k-100k.
Not sure on the skill part but people will keep buying boosters to help earn SP faster like in any other match.
Plus I doubt that everyone will start playing this mode Wanna know why?
Because this an MMO and people like to show off that they have better gear than the next guy in MMOs. That is just how MMOs are.
Also it will be a great deal for new players to keep trying out suits withouth getting stumped by using the militia variant until they decide where to dump SP on.
"Hmm I just finished the academy and I haven't used any of my SP. Maybe I should buy the militia suits and see which one I like the most." "But wait using militia in pub matches will just mean easy kills for the beta vets and their high-end proto gear." "OHH lookey. A militia warfare mode. I can test out the suits tgere without getting stepped on"
That's how I see it. Even in the academy newberries won't get the training necessary to go against us and our gear. By adding this game mode they at least can see our playstyle and see which corps are the most dangerous to go against. |

Preferrable imo to having an inexperienced player facing him in his full proto suit. He still has better stats & whatnot but in militia the passive skills have a significantly lower benefit.
They still learn time investment = power but there isn't as large of a gap in powe. |

Would be great for newberries.
However, instead of militia warfare... lets make it standard gear max.
There arent militia variants of everything, and standard gear is easy to acquire (level 1 in any skill is rarely more than 12-30k SP).
Standard gear is much better, and has much less CPU/PG requirement, allowing for more versatile (yet balanced) fits.
However, in an effort to keep the playerbase from dividing too much with too many game modes, just have a single ambush variant.
Make it the first 'Gladiator Arena' match types.
Call it Team Deathmatch: std gear only and no vehicles.
Hell, even I would happily play that.
Just limit the ISK payouts severly, low risk low reward right?
With a game mode like this I might actually tell my friends about this game. Otherwise, why would I invite my friends into proto pubstomps? I can't play with them in the academy either. |

You say that, but for some reason, we all still win isk when we lose a match. Make sense at all? When you balance risk v reward, the implication is that the risk is you lose not just the reward, but whatever you took with you to try to get that reward. In EVE, losing a battle does not earn you isk, failing a mission does not earn you isk. Why does losing a match in dust mean we get paid?
Aside from my opinion being that only match winners should receive an isk reward, I think the skill rewards at the end of matches are a good reflection of experience gained on the battlefield, win or lose, and the bonus SP cap balances it out.
Also, this is a solid suggestion. +1. I like the idea of a limited gear engagement option where new players can grind for better gear, or even vets can grind if they "lose it all" on a high-risk endeavour. I also think it would be a necessary gametype as long as PVE is not available if the "only rewarded for winning" system were implemented. And I do agree with Xender, to a degree, except that SP rewards should still apply, reflecting experience gained, but isk rewards should be capped much lower than regular matches. |

Standard mode sounds sound
Here's an idea
Have a small seperate bonus sp cap for this mode like around 15-35k and then wp=1/2 sp hard cap . Makes the veterans use this mode to truly cap out at the cost of higher risk encounters, and also discourages the newberries from nursing SP, requiring them to utilize normal pub matches to further improve their character. |

The thing you don't seem to understand, is that; what is the point of getting better gear when there is a game mode where everyone is equal? All the competitive Corps would go there and compete against one another. So that their items will all be equal; skill would be more defining. Thing is, those are some of the people that spend the most money. Personally, I would never leave that game mode. I would be defined mire by the skill I possess than the stuff I have. Would completely kill any motivation to spend any motivation to spend money. It would kill the motivation to get better stuff.
Personally, I like the idea. Though, I realize that CCP would start getting desperate to get people to spend money. If they focused more on cosmetic things, rather than skill based items, they would be able to do this and get more money.
Also, don't call people stupid just because they disagree with you. It makes you seem crude and makes enemies.

I didn't meant it in a hard way. But for tge way he said it it looked like he just read the surface of this thread and commented.
Also I see your point but also (like I said) this could be a coolsubstitute untill PvE arrives. Once PvE is here I would be fine by CCP taking out this game mode.
And also this is an MMO. Yes everyone would be equal in gear and that is what MMO players dislike the most. MMO players will always try to show off the new, powerful thing they have. And rewards would be WAY lower than usual so let's say if you want to make a million ISK: In PUB matches it might take you 3-5 games to make a million ISK.
In Militia Warfare it coukd take you 6-10 games just to get a million.
Knowing that adding drones is in the near future (12 months from now) tgis game mode might only see the day light for 2-5 months.
Also PC will be taking place and people want to earn ISK fast so Militia Warfare is not a choice to earn ISK the fastest way.

Sounds like a good idea. I think using STD and Miltia would work out real good. Does CCP have Miltia gear for all of the STD? No. But, you could get a feel for how something will work with some of the Miltia.

Maybe it coukd be a STD game mode only? Maybe. But then the rewards will have to be increased rather than decrease.
But if CCP catches an eye on this thread I am sure they will work something out. |
