I can see why they hinted that the next expansion may be about the fall of the Empires. Now that the clone soldiers are starting to get loose, think about the real horror that is a clone soldier. An immortal, elite soldier who can be cloned to look like anyone, who has no definite features or tells.
No one will be safe, there is no such thing as a suicide mission now. Why would one of us even blink at strapping ourselves down with explosive compound and running into a executive or political building and killing everyone inside only to wake up moments later on a distant planet with no one the wiser at who we are?
The scariness isn't that we can continually fight forever in wars of domination. Its that now there can be extremely skilled and elite operatives who don't care if they live or die.
Heth? Roden? Jamyl? They can't be safe. Any one of us could be formed into someone and look like we should be at the location, we know procedure enough not to stand out. It doesn't matter if we are caught because we can just detonate ourselves.
With the release of Uprising, are you guys ready to bring down everything?
Now taking bids, Starting at 1 Million isk for me to wire myself down with detmix and try to detonate one of the Empire leaders or in a large public place. |

gbghg wrote:Wow immortal terrorists, never thought of that before. The implications are staggering, the only limiting factor to cloned mercenaries now are their own morals and ISK.
No kidding, per the information, each clone is $53,000 and thats just the highest rate, the price will only decrease once the economy gets going. Lets say it averages at $40,000 a clone, then $5,000 in elite equipment. Thats just a base cost
For the price of a nice car you can fund a elite veteran killer to murder anywhere from 100 to 10,000 people. Think about dropping a stack of grenades into a ship's plasma reactor, could kill hundreds of thousands for cheap. Overloading a chemical foundry, dumping poisonous chemicals in the air.
Or the one we fear now adays, the merc who just walks into a major city with a suitcase nuke and detonates.
The real question is, how much will the Cartel's pay us. They have alot of isk to burn and the scale of the destruction for the cost is only limited by the imagination.

Bid starting at 10 million for killing thousands and starving tens of thousands. Do we have any other offers? |

You need to get more creative.
How about I learn how to repair a Titan engine, kill a crew member on gallente Titan, take his place, sabotage their jump bridge coordinates and then jump their entire fleet into a star? |

I mean eve pilots can clone across the universe, what's to stop me from having clones in null and low sec and hitching a ride on a capsule ship as a crew member to Jita then to anywhere. I'd be an invaluable crew member since I can keep learning new things.
And if I fail at my mission there is always tomorrow. And the next day and the next day and the...... |

The only thing I could think of would be some type of handheld jamming device which would stop the implant's signals from transmitting the information from one location to another, or one that could reroute the signal to a detention facility. However that has serious implications about the gameplay of Dust 514. Considering it would neutralize the cloning ability of any attackers or defenders.
There is also the possibility of Battle-star Galactica where you can't really jam the signal, but you can only clone so far away. However that would severely limit Null Sec attack possibilities. Companies could only attack fairly adjacent facilities instead of trying to penetrate deep into enemy territory.
The bidding is up to a combined bid of 25 million to release an airborne pathogen in a Mim Aide center. However for that price I may just do 5-10 Aide centers. Also once that job is complete I can do more. Keep the bids coming!.
The only thing that stops people from committing atrocities is the fear of consequences. The fear of death, the fear of imprisonment. With nothing like that to stop us then there is nothing to prevent us from destroying everything. No Empire could withstand hundreds of attacks each day, hundreds or thousands of mercs working independently to commit acts of terrorism on a mass scale. |

Don't forget, you can stop me a dozen times, a hundred times. however all I have to do is reach my destination to wreck havoc. How would a facility do if I reach the first checkpoint and detonate a huge explosive and then clone and come back within minutes to hours and do it again and again. How long could a facility or location last with the sheer scale of uncaring terrorist activity?
And each time I'm stopped I will learn more about your procedures, adapt my infiltration paths. How often can you change the codes before people start to screw up and your information chains break down? The only way is constant martial law, but even that doesn't work because you could hire one of us to guard you and we use that to get in and destroy you.
The only real way to stop us is to kill us all now. |

As with all weapons, the clone will fall into the hands of terrorists. To meet the new threat, government enforced protocols will be brought in to test the background of each and every clone as he awakens to ensure they truly are who they claim.
A specially assigned task force of clones and men alike will rise up to find and destroy rogue facuilities, thus ending the cycle for criminal clones.
It'll become another sort of black market, another cat and mouse game between pirate and English navy.
And, as always, God help those caught in the middle.
Good luck with that. If there is one thing that history teaches us again and again. It is that Empires and Nations cannot stand up against small bands of loose elements who engage is guerilla warfare. The idea of a task force trying to hunt down an immortal terrorist is silly at best. Kill him today on one planet, he is on another one planting a bomb. Kill him there and he will just appear in a concert hall on another planet. How long until Anarchy rules? There is only so much a population can take before they start blaming the government instead of the terrorist. |

[quote=Vyzion Eyri] ....utopia is impossible. There will always be one who takes control of the chaos. Whether it's a corporation or a small group, someone has to pay your terrorists. And those who pay immortal clones to do their bidding obviously have an agenda. If they go blow **** up just for the hell of it, the future will be bleak and biomass shortages will turn immortals into impossibly expensive assets..... [quote]
Excellent post Vyzion. Thats what I mean. I believe the future of EVE lies in the rising of player corporations. I think that is the next step we are heading towards. An empire is to large and unwieldy to deal with something like Immortal Terrorism. However, player corporations are small enough to prevent the need to fund mass murder to make a point. |

Long but excellent point iceyburnz. However depending on the clone transfer technology, as others have said, Pandora's box may well and truly be open from a real Lore perspective. That transport company may control entire star systems, but how long would they stay in buisness with daily attacks on their space stations, space ports, employees and their families, their distrubution hubs, their corporate events, their headquarters. Every time they air a commercial a terrorist attacks the studio who aired it making companies pull their adds, attacking large clients to pull their sponsorship.
Large companies have to much visibility to withstand the kind of hurt that a small guerilla operation with little fear of reprisal can put on them.
I also agree with you that a player driven game would be amazing, but lore breaking. However I have played Shadowbane and that was all player driven, and it was still... really fun. There were some good elements for lore there as well. |
