Okay so ... here we are again with another huge explosion of threads on the forums indicating that the Logistics Suits (in particular the Caldari) are suddenly too good, and that they should be nerfed. So I've been once again crawling through the vastness of this forum to put together a generalized ... report if you will ... on the whole shebang.
[b[First and Foremost[/b]
Right from the get-go, I'm going to point out that I am indeed a Logistics user. So it might appear that my examples are biased. However I use my own experience to drive a point, and I also know I'm not the only one who fits into the described scenarios.
Now on to Business
Let's start at the bottom of everything, and move our way upwards shall we? We all know that the role of the Logistics Suit is to provide support on the field in various forms. The form in which a player decides to support the team is a naturally a factor in how they're going to fit themselves. Logis come in various shapes and sizes, from small time Repair LogiBros, to swift Hacker and bulky Munitions Expert. Each of them works slightly differently and they all need to be adaptable to the situation at hand in order to effectively fill their roles. Now here's the fun part: Each and every racial suit, gives a bonus (as you all have no doubt noticed since most of you are QQing about the Caldari Logistics racial bonus). This bonus, can be used in one of two ways. It can either be used to compliment your abilities, or it can be used to help cover a weakness in your build. So let's expand on that.
=-Complimenting Your Abilities (Your Fit)-=
I run a Hacking/Repper Logi. I personally love the nice balance, and for me, it's an excellent WP treasure trove. I've been getting better at it too =D But let's get to the nitty gritty here. Lucky for me, I'm Minmatar. And cause I like to RP a little bit, I take pride in my Minmatar ancestry and I will generally lean towards Minmatar made stuff. Happy day for me when I discovered that the Minmatar suit offered a small Hacking buff (if I remember rightly). This is what I mean to pick a suit that helps your chosen role. I don't know about you guys, but it drives me bananas when I try to spawn in, and the hacker completes his hack before my timer runs down to 0. I can only imagine how irritating it much be to try to spawn in on what seems to be a point with nothing going on ... then whops! Someone's hacking it, ... damnit 6 seconds left ... come on come on....... CRAP! And I complete my hack when he's only got 2 seconds left to spawn where he could stop me in my tracks. This is why I love the Codebreaker. Quick turnovers before anyone knows what happened. The boost on the Minmatar suit helps me hack even faster, making me more effective at what I do.
=-Covering a Weakness-=
You can imagine, after I've put all my SP towards Hacking and Repping people ... I don't have much SP left to spend on increasing my surviveability. It's an obvious weakness in my build. In order to cover for that weakness I should probably take something like the Amarr suit with it's larger Armor Rep passive ... or the Caldari suit with it's Shield bonus. Something to help me stay in the fray longer ... something to help me actually get to the points I want to hack. By taking either of these suits, I'm covering for my weakness. I sacrifice a boost to my ability to help cover a hole in my armor. But that's what it's all about right? Making choices and trying to find a balance between your abilities.
The Thing Everyone Forgets
Something I've been coming across lately is how everyone gets the bright idea that all the players out there are going to go with the Caldari Logistics Suit simply because they can HP stack and become absolute terrors on the battlefield. Well ... here's the thing boys and girls. Logistics is a SP sink. In Chromosone, I had 2.5 Mil SP. with that, I had a full Dropship set up with the most basic gear I needed for it to work AND be effective. I then built my Hacker/Repper Logi fit, and then even managed to build a basic AV kit. Come along Uprising, and suddenly my 2.5 Mil SP can't even get me my Hacker/Repper Logi fit back ... let alone my ship and AV kit. Skill progression became harder and now it's going to take me twice the effort to get my gear back. But then ... I'm not the only one. EVERYONE had the SP respec once Uprising came out and EVERYONE lost gear on old fits due to the new skill progression system (some maybe not so much if you had well over 5 Mil SP, at which point you got all your gear back, but not as high level as it was before ... I think).
In the end it comes to this. Logistics in particular is a SP sink. You have so many slots to fill, and so many roles to choose from, there's no way you'd be anywhere near as good as someone else unless you specced into the exact same thing. And something you have to keep in mind as well is how the Logistics people are forced to progress. While I was working on getting my suit, I was useless. While I was focused on getting my rep tool I was still useless. While I was focused on getting my codebreaker I could only rep people. While I was focused on getting my other equipment (hives and needles) I still could only run around and hack/rep people. While I was focused on my weapon skills I was still poor in the HP department, making me an easy kill. Only until after I finally manages to invest a little in my shields and armor (not as much as others, since I have codebreakers in some slots) did I become a full fledged Logi. And man ... that took time. Sometimes I thought I'd just scrap the project and run with something simpler ... easier to attain. Like an Assault or some crap like that. |
