So reading this thread on vehicle hacking has got me thinking https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=77652
Several people have before suggested hacking a vehicle should allow you to reclaim it, but bringing up that it should show up in your post game salvage report made me wonder why doesn't all salvage work like this? Why not make it so you have to - you know - salvage. For vehicles have them salvageable only by hacking and reclaiming. But for everything else perhaps the following.
Make salvage come from the fallen enemies (and teammates). Have items appear in three different groupings. Weapons, equipment, and dropsuits. You could then assign a value to each item that would represent the likelihood that it can be salvaged upon death, that way we can still keep these as a rare occurrence. As far as modules go, those would be salvaged with the dropsuits and also have a value assigned to each one that would further decrease the chance of the dropsuit being salvaged. Perhaps to further increase rarity there can be a chance that upon salvaging a dropsuit some of the modules are broken and unusable. When an someone then dies and something can be salvaged, give it a glow/shine to make it noticeable that you go up and "hack" it or something similar, and it gets added to your assets.
Something like this could go a long ways for the meta game. Many other games have similar systems where there are items you want to collect during a competitive match that don't go towards the objective but give you rewards - Uncharted 3 MP with the treasures and God of War Ascension MP with the rare white treasure chests to name a couple. These games have proven its a lot of fun to balance the risk/reward of going out of your way to collect these rare drops, and it would fit in with the Mercenary theme of Dust 514.
For PVE something different would have to be done. Perhaps you could say the rogue drones collected some of the gear from fallen troops and thus if you kill them there is a chance you may get it (perhaps even tie it in so it is actual gear that was used on that district during past PVP battles). As far as officer weapons, I am not sure how these would get added in with this.
It would require extensive testing and would have to be something more long term, but its always cool to start thinking about where you could go with Dust. |
