I would just like to hold my shot and line it up better. I think the inability to hold a charge is part of what balances it as a light weapon, otherwise it may just straight up replace the forge.
FG do more damage, are easier to hit with (don't have to account for drop), have bigger clips and have both a stored charge and non-stored charge variant. I don't see plasma cannons replacing forge guns anytime soon, even if they could store a charge. |

That's the problem though, people who are using it effectively aren't even using it on vehicles. There are plenty of effective Anti-Infantry weapons already--we need a good AV weapon to fit on non-heavy suits. Swarm launchers do too much for you and thus have their own drawbacks. For the skill this weapon takes to be effective against vehicles, it's stats are subpar.
EDIT: I assume by "easy to hit people" you're referring literally to people on the ground and not vehicles. |

The balance is a number of factors, you can't dismiss that by simply referring to some of the other differences.
What about the Plasma Cannons makes up for these downsides? I was only talking about the FG, but if we take SL into account, the situation is even worse. The SL does significantly more damage at higher tiers, has multiple "bullets" per clip, takes time to lock on, but not to charge up and requires essentially no aiming or skill to use (probably the biggest factor). Now what about the Plasma Cannon balances all those important negatives?
When you see Plasma Cannons being used over FGs by heavies, that's when you know they're too good. |
