**SIDENOTE, NOT IMPORTANT** To start with, I posted this topic on the Feedback/Requests section a couple days ago, and few people really noticed it. I thought I'd probably just let the post go, but since then I seen quite a few posts with members mentioning the need for more War Points overall. Since this section sees the most traffic, and I felt as though this subject deserves attention, I've decided to repost here. **END**
Obviously Dust 514 is supposed to be more about teamwork and strategy than simply killing the other team's members. Yes we're mercenaries, yet a mercenary's job isn't always exterminating targets but also completing tasks. This is why I believe that the distribution of War Points needs to be expanded immensely.
I'm sure that many Dust players have played the Battlefield series, so I'd like to point that game out as an example. You can earn a large amount of points without ever killing an enemy; for example, if you spot an enemy and a teammate kills him afterward, you recieve a share of the points. Now Dust already allows you to earn a lot for support roles, but I believe CCP can go further.
Hindering the Opposing Team - WP for destroying enemy drop uplinks and nanohives (commonly requested) *- WP for preventing enemies from entering objectives +Based on shots fired at enemies moving within a specified area around an objective towards it - Increase in WP for destroying enemy installations and equipment
Defense - 50% increase in WP for killing an enemy hacking an objective - 25% increase in WP for killing an enemy within specified area around objective - 20% increase in WP for killing an enemy hacking or around a team installation or vehicle - 10% increase in WP for killing an enemy around a drop uplink or nanohive (area should be really small, maybe 10m) - 25% increase in WP for killing an enemy shooting or attacking a teammate
Aiding the Team *- Increase in WP for providing drop uplinks and nanohives when they're used *- Increase in WP for revives and healing *- WP for owned vehicles being used by teammates to earn WP (except the unlimited LAV) *- WP for being shot at and hit by enemies with teammates around you (encourage players to pull enemy fire off of teammates) - WP for dropships (CCP knows what we want) - 25 to 50% more WP for hacking installations and objectives (maybe just for hacking while in the uncontested state) - 10 to 20% increase in WP for killing enemies with teammates around you (encourage squads to travel together) *- WP for suppression fire - WP for spotting enemies that later are killed by teammates
*Small amounts of WP, like say less than 10. But still enough to be noticeable and encourage the actions
There are many other areas that you could earn WP, but I just wanted to lay out a few ideas to give everyone an idea of what I mean. To note, giving WP for almost everything can lead to abuse, but I believe with the right amount of balance the ideas present can work, especially when most require an enemy to be around.
To end, I'd like to hear ideas from everyone else and viewpoints on this subject, hopefully catching CCP's attention. I'm sure they're aware of the need for more WP, but I'd like for them to realize just how important it is. The game is so much more fun when you feel like you're making progress. Dust 514 should reward those who work together and fight for the team, and I believe that maybe some of my ideas present and those that everyone else has will benefit the game.

No more of this "Oh you did 99% of the damage but someone walked up last second and got the kill? We'll give them 50 points for that one bullet and you can have 25." Agreed. ME3's multiplayer does a great job of scaling that. |

ME3's multiplayer does a great job of scaling that. BF3 as well, you do 98% dmg, you get 98 assist points. They still get the 100 though, but based on timing sometimes you get kill instead of them. While scaling assists points are what I want, I do believe the killer should recieve the full fifty unless they only inflicted a small amount of damage. |

Especially the suppression fire one. Encourages heavies to keep enemies in cover, rather than shoot at them when they're out of cover. As in, actually get them to play in their role. My idea for providing suppression fire WP could be based on the amount of shots fired in succession (compared to the weapons RoF) directed towards enemy players within a specified radius. For example, HMG's only recieve a fraction of a WP per shot, but because of the large capacity and high RoF, and if they fired fairly continously in the enemy's direction, then the accumulated WP could add up to a nice enough sum. On the other hand, a sniper would recieve more WP for close misses because of the small clip and low RoF. Not a perfect solution, and the WP should probably never exceed 25 for a minute of constant suppression, but something along those lines. |
