So running around on an alt account I plan to use to try out flavor of the month stuff in the future or LAVs or whatever the hell just for fun. 500,000 SP gallente frontline with a GLU and nothing in skills except required to get that GLU (ok ok, a Flaylock too, but whatever).
Completely raping noobs dude. It reminds me of the first week of open beta all over again. And I'm not even that good at this game. About to drop down to militia assault just because it stops being fun after a while.
You need to let people GTFO of Academy and it would stop at least SOME of this.
OTOH, gonna go stroke my KDR. |

Always said it needed to be placed in as an option.
99% of these sorts of problems could be prevented if players were able to make simple choices.

You can get in a squad with the "big boys" and go to war with them, completely bypassing the academy.
That said, it would be nice if you had the option to go to war by yourself. |

new players should be able to jump to real battles if they think they can handle it, but older players should not be able to move down and play in the academy matches. |

hmmmm or maybe forcing that interaction to get out of the academy is actually genius game design.... hmm I think on this...
It really pushes people into joining up in squads and corps.... If they think the game is too easy. |

Yeah we found a bug with the academy, working on fix right now to be deployed tomorrow during downtime. |

I think that the academy, while a good idea in theory is absolutely stupid I'm its practice. CCP still doesn't have a fix for scrimish games counting stars unless you clone the other team. I have been playing since before the "Precursor" build, I have over 11 million SP, I reach the cap every week, continue playing once I reach the cap, I do not sit back and AFK, I average 20-30 kills a game and I hack everything worth points, blow up everything that I can, and because I find ambush boring before I reach my cap, I still sit with a KDR of 3.05 (KDR means nothing) 5000 WP, and around 8000 kills.
If they had fixed the stat counting issue before they instituted this WP limited academy, they would have far fewer "vets" playing with the new players, stomping them into the ground. |

It's a legitimate argument, I played the first couple weeks of open beta in ambush only and I was new so wasn't very good, since those first two weeks I have played nothing but skirmish with the occasional ambush battle (once per week maybe)
I'm not new anymore and don't wanna toot my own horn but I'm not horrible, however, my stats would tell you otherwise because skirmish stats don't count, that's a big problem. |

Yeah, I have to jump on the "give them a choice" bandwagon.
Saying get in a squad is great if you aren't a new player and already know how to do that. Also, like others have said, whether it's an alt of a vet or it's a new player that doesn't want to swim in the kiddie pool -- it's appropriate to let them see the real thing from time to time (even if just to check on their own progress once in a while).
I'd suggest this is more important than it sounds... as some folks won't appreciate being stuck in the kiddie pool. |

I'm not telling you my stats to boast, I'm pointing out that by all rights, I shouldn't be able to play in this "newberry playground" but because CCP hasn't fixed a rather large issue, myself and other players are stuck being able to play in this area, and in some cases forced to because our stats haven't been counted properly. This really puts actual new players at an even higher disadvantage because its just our WP that is keeping us there, with the academy being our only option (scrimish heavy players) it doesn't really set up a good place for newer players to learn the game. |
