There are mixed reviews about it, its getting a lot of Love/Hate that either thread subject just doesn't stay alive long enough. I hate the Semi-Auto version but love the Auto version. They both pack a punch that make shield tankers want to cry, and if you can line your shots properly a charge shot can take out an entire shield and half of the armor of an infantry unit In the end they were made to suit different playstyles, the Assault variant for in your face DIE DIE DIE, and the TAC a assault/sniper hybrid support thing, I think the TAC-AR should overheat to stop the abuse of it. |

For my part, I've only used the charge SCAR; it seems to work best at range using a single fully charged shot to take down shields, followed by a quick 2-3 shots to finish off the target. Miss or shoot one too many times and you'll burn yourself in the latter case and/or be useless for 5 seconds while your weapon cools. I've found it tricky to balance the use of the SCAR with my Scrambler pistol, as you can't swap if you overheat, especially in closer combat situations where the sidearm would actually be useful.
Overall, it's a weapon that requires a great deal of micromanagement; even more than the Laser Rifle.
Range clocks in at a max of 85 meters (for advanced).
Yes, in my opinion I think the heat build up for the normal shots should be lowered a bit it is very hard to use when it comes to defending yourself, the semi is more for a suppressive type of gameplay.

Actually I find it exceptional for killing. The Assault SCAR would be better for suppression due to the low damage and full auto (23/700 for ADV if I remember right).
I get killed when trying to line up shots when using the Semi-Auto variant. |
