So today's skirmish battles have been fun so far as I made a squad with Goat of Dover running ninja fits all over the place.
Skim Junction Map
On this first match, we decided to split up. I would head up along the north side in the mountains sneaking around with my active scanner looking for snipers while Goat of Dover tries to wreak havoc in the center of the map. As we were having random conversations about future nova knives from the Amarr which look like Gladiator-style swords (as seen in Fanfest) and the Gallente variant that looks like a Klingon hook knife, I heard Goat having some encounters with enemy mercs. In the mean time, I ran into a sniper perched way up in the north mountain as he appear just briefly on my mini map. A quick swipe of the scanner and I was able to tell which way to approach him.
*Charge* *Slash* *instant death*
I then decided to prowl around the area while Goat of Dover was busy hacking Objective E. So far I didn't find anyone else in the mountains so I decided to take a usual stroll through the enemy's side of the map passing right by the northeastern MCC and then scouting around the easternmost clone reanimation unit with my active scanner. Nothing, so I decided to continue on southward until I heard Goat alerting me of an incoming LAV roaming around the area. I quickly sprang southward to hide behind a small hill in a trench just deep enough to hide my most mercs. I knelt down and waited for the LAV to pass by. The LAV came in, but instead of passing by it drove right over the hill and landed right on top of me. Next thing I know I was waking up in a CRU.
As I respawned, I went along the south side of the map to try to find any more scouts. Nothing. But once again I found myself taking another stroll through enemy territory going north this time towards the same mountains. As I reached the top of the north mountains, I noticed a lone nanohive that was unattended. It wasn't there before so I looked around and then I ran into the same sniper. Once again, he dies to my knife. This time, instead of leaving the mountain, I decided to stick around to see if he comes back. Sure enough he does, but he came back quicker than usual. Must have been an uplink I missed earlier. As I moved around once again to pounce on him, my cover is blown as he turns to my direction. Next thing I know, the whole thing devolved into an all out dance of death between a nova knife user and a scrambler-wielding sniper. I died.
I then respawned where Goat of Dover was located to regroup and tried to hold control of objective E. But I completely forgot about the sniper and he gets me from his perch. It wasn't long there after before the match ended. Me KDR was better than Goat's but he managed to rack up more WP than I did so he ended up higher in the leader board than I was.
We then played for another three matches. One was in Ambush where I realized that the redline has expanded so much that by the time I was died and respawned, the match was already over. 50 clones in reserve was apparently easy to go through in Ambush. The next one in Ambush OMS. It lasted a little longer but wasn't as fun.
Our final match together was in Skirmish with Manus Peak. We ran together this time with Goat taking the lead. We spotted a sniper perched up in the northwestern hill overlooking objective C and the Goat called dibs on him. I stayed behind looking from a distance in case someone else popped up. Poor sniper didn't check his six when Goat sacrificed him to the knifing gods. I forgot to ask how the liver looked. The match was completely hectic while me and Goat trying to get objective A. After causing so much ruckus near the objective, I managed to kill off the driver of a nearby LAV as he switched over to the turret allowing me to stab him. Unfortunately I died in the process and respawned at A. Me and Goat quickly ran to the vacant LAV while we were under intense fire and managed to get the hell out in time as we gained control of the LAV. After that, we drove away into the Land of Far Far Away. As we arrived by objective B to hold our ground, we stuck together flanking anyone that tried to kill us. The match still ended with our defeat I believe.
Goat of Dover, thank you very much to teaming up with me. It was fun squading with you. If only we had more folks like Nightingale, Nova and such we would have wreaked so much havoc together. |

Oooooh, this was in a match just before me and Goat of Dover teamed up. He was listening to me prowling as it happened and while he was getting ready in his merc quarters.
It was in the Skim Junction map on Skirmish. I spawned on the east side and took a long run in my recon fitted Gallente suit. I was so well hidden I was prowling in enemy territory on the far west side. I killed this one Amarr Assault guy from behind who was sniping before I ran back into my hiding spot waiting for someone else. After a long prowl thereafter, I went back to check and of course the guy was there once again in the same spot. Killed him again.
Thinking it was time to relocate, I hide behind another structure and decided to check on the CRU with my active scanner. PING!!!! There it was, yet another red dot appearing. But was just around the corner and I was right there waiting for him to turn the corner. Surprisingly, he turned the corner and zoomed right by me avoiding my initial strike so I chased after him as he rounded another corner of the same structure and into the redline. These people seem to do that very often when they encounter me. But the surprising bit came when he suddenly stopped and turned 180 degree right as I zoomed passed him while still outside his field of vision. He just stood there probably thinking he was just seeing things and running from ghosts. Too bad for him this ghost was too real. Once charged swipe and he was down. Keep in mind this is the same guy who was sniping.
I then hid behind a hill thinking I can pounce on him once again. He comes back, but this time he spotted me and I strafe my way towards him to force him to miss. Not only were we doing the dance of death, I was also in the redline with him. It was more of a sprint, dance, sprint, dance, sprint, dance and then Lady Redline says "20 seconds is long enough, playboy" and I commit suicide next to the Amarr assault. |

@Mollerz
I did notice that anomaly with the knives. Quite strange and it seems to me that there is a limit on how fast I can repeatedly swipe. As for the Minmatar suit, I am skilled a bit into that but not able to get into the higher-tier suit because I invested a lot into Gallente Scout. |

CCP did say they were going to streamline the skill progression on the suits a little more. I do like to go all the way with Minmatar but I'm now stuck on whether I want to go for that or the Gallente after experimenting with the stealth fit. What a dilemma. |

Though it is true that the active scanner will warn your enemy of your presence like a submarine sending out a PING to an enemy sub, the enemy in this case isn't entire aware as to where the ping is coming from in Dust. The faint blue beam you see eminating from the scanner can give hints but a smart player will aim the scanner just slightly downward to the ground under his target so that it can be masked. This way, the enemy will have no way of knowing how close and which way you are located when you scan him. Of course, it also depends on the person you are scanning. Smart mercs will be attentive and heed the warning they receive. Dump mercs will ignore it and up being a fish fillet sandwitch to a ninja knifer. |

I recently encountered this problem but I experience it differently. It seems I can't register any hits when my target is sprinting away from me even though I can catch up just fine. |

mollerz wrote:I got into a duel today. Was pretty sweet. My enemy drew first blood taking down my shields and half my armor. I dipped and dodge as we swung back and forth at each other. It came down to us running at each other swiping as we passed and then turning around to face each other again. Much different than the usual dance and swipe. We even took measured pauses here and there like we were sizing each other up and feinting which way we were going to move. Just as my shield started recharging he stormed me as I strafed jumped left past his swing and swiped him in the face. OHK.
later we had another smaller knife fight.. but on a steep hill. I didn't count this as a victory because some blueberry ran up to us to pepper him with his SMG. I killed him, but i wish that dude had stayed out of it. shrug. I meant to send him a fan mail.. he was really good. I'd like to take Maken on myself.
I've noticed tho, lag really exacerbates any problems with the knives, and I have been noticing a lot of it today.
Oh yea- and why can't we sprint and charge? makes no sense.
Now that sounds a very awesome fight. Too bad the blueberry had to get in the way.
I use to support the idea of sprinting and charging. But as I said before in my previous diaries, I looked at the numbers and realized that adding such a feature will practically make the knives overpowered. Think about it. At max skill and with the Ishukone Knives, you can already deal about 600 HP damage with the instant attack alone and up to 1200 HP damage with a charge attack. You can practically OHK a heavy. |

@mollerz
Think about it. Consider the fact that CCP has the tendency to over nerf anything that is deemed over powered by the masses. If the masses start complaining because the sprint-charge, then CCP will over nerf the knives and end up with plastic butter knives that are as effective as cutting a tree with the blunt side of an axe.
I don't want that. Better safe than sorry in my opinion no matter how you look at it. Besides, we're getting cloaking modules in the future and I have become far more effective at dodging enemy fire than I ever thought possible with the current setup.
So as you can see, this has nothing to do with the sake of the heavies. It's about protecting the nova knives from CCP's nerf bat. |

@CCP
I have posted a new thread in the Technical/Bugs section of the forums titled 'Ninja Knifing and Hit Detection. It needs to be fixed' and it is something I need you guys to read ASAP.
For those of you nova knifers out there who are having this issue, I need you to post over there for support so that we can get this resolved as quick as possible. It seems that not enough people are posting about it. |

Thought about that a long time ago, but felt that there would be more visibility through the forums. Personal preference really. |
