After reading the QQ threads here about how a tank spidertanking another tank simply doesn't work, my merry group of gents and I decided to try it out. End game results, 23/0 blaster tank almost 3k points, rep tank also squad leader 5/0 744 points. No wp gained from repping the other tank, low wp on my end. I have minimum skills invested in tanks, and was able to rep fairly effectively.
Points of interest : 1. Shield transporter still bulky and hard to use 2. Setting defend/attack orders while in vehicle extremely buggy, removes reticule, targetting block 3. LOS and range of shield reps very short hard to maintain 4. Shield transporter fit takes a ton of PG, end result minimum skilled rep tank only has 3k shields
Summary It works, but the mechanics are extremely faulty at times, requires time and patience to get it to work right. Squad leader should not be rolling the rep tank xD But it was one of the most fun games I've ran. We're about to try it again lets see if this works. Oh and the hostiles targetted the rep tank almost non stop, making for small annoyances, the blaster tank had to stay between our LOS in order to soak up damage. |

Oh and does anyone have any suggestions? Anyone tried this before, found something that works fairly well? We're trying to optimize it, we tried the Logi LAV, but it's buggy as hell so I got annoyed and decided to try the tank instead :P |

I'm curious; what were you rolling with? Soma w/ shield transporters? If so, what low power mods were you rolling with?
I agree with you on the point of squad leading from tanks. It just doesn't work out for some reason. |

I only have a bit of experience with it from the Chromosome build. I like the idea, though! Try using the best armor/armor hardener/heavy repper that you can run with, and of course put low PG/CPU turrets on this tank (although the main turret should have as good tracking speed as possible). |

I'm using a Gunloggi with a Missile turret, simply because I like the missile turrets, two scattered, mobile CRU a shield extender normal a resist amp and a shield recharger, with the heavy meta shield transporter CPU and PG enhancer in the lows. Debating taking off the MCRU since it doesn't give points for spawns any more. And the team wasn't utilizing it properly, they wouldn't get out and take the objectives just spawned into the turrets and basically afk'd there.
And the main problem with squad leading from tanks seems to be the icons wont stick on friendlies, and it just keeps the attack/defend symbol on your screen. You have to get out of the tank to do it, and risk a teammate stealing said tank. |

I was the tank he was repping (the blaster tank) running with my own shield booster on the tank and a passive and active shield hardener to soak up the damage. This allowed me to sit infront of him and soak all incoming damage while sustaining it as he repped me. The shield transporter range is a bit of a concern because you almost have to have your tanks sit on top of eachother and at one point my tank ended up ontop of his. |

At this point, the devs need to throw everything out of the window and start from scratch on remote repair modules for vehicles. They're too goddmned cumbersome to use. For starters, they should make everything proximity based in a 3-D sphere for every vehicle remote repairer. (refer to Active Scanner) Any repairs could be divided amongst the vehicles, rounded down and the pilot/driver can focus on situational awareness instead of fumbling with the radial menu and flawed aiming and lock on systems. |

I haven't tried it this build but it was pretty effective previously, I enjoyed it.
One thing I learnt though is that the Squad Leader should always be Support, whilst the other tank pushes up ahead. Because Spider Tanking doesn't pay out much for the Support Tanker, I've found that having the Squad Leader be support and get points off my kills is very helpful to them as they get rewarded slightly.
With the 6 man squads it must be much more viable as you can move as a convoy and deploy 4 Infantry when needed. |

I've been playing around with LAVs on an alt and found this to be quite effective, even with a Methana/Saga using a repair tool/shield transporter and MLT LAVs of the same tanking type. LAVs have been buffed up enough to being more than just mobile trashcans and the MLT turrets are powerful enough to almost warrant a nerf. Try it with a tightly packed 2-1 formation where the "slayer" LAVs are leading the charge. Very effective and gratifying at the same time, especially in a map where HAV are at a disadvantage. We only wiped because I got beached on the terrain and couldn't recover in enough time to avoid a well placed forge gun blast to the chassis.
It almost makes me wonder if LAVs being perquisite for HAV was designed for the sake of incentive instead of being an SP sink. |

LAVs are just good :D Called in 3 Caldari LLAVs and gave them to my squad mates, poor enemy team. |

my and a few corp mates once did it with 3 gunnlogis in the last build all with small shield transporters (they use up less cpu/pg and still heal for quite a lot)
and we just spidered each other, if someone was taking damage we repped them and if it was on cooldown we just positioned to block los to them
they couldnt do much to us by try to orbital us |

Spider Tanking is beast man, even before the nerfs, they were pretty effective but not many people can run effective squads utilising it, most Spider Tank squads consist of two Tanks, though I managed to have four rolling around together (All funded by myself) which was hilarious.
Another tip, Light Shield Transporter heals as much as a Heavy Shield Booster at a fraction of the PG/CPU. |

A lot of tankers have been saying less gank and more tank, so that would be a good idea. Like the logi LAV, it could have a the tool built in. But unlike the logi LAV, it would have to actually work. You know... so people don't waste their SP getting into a vehicle that doesn't do what it's advertised to do... and still have the same description for almost a year... after so many suggestions to change the description... |
