First and foremost, Why?: I feel like CCP doesn't want to give dropsuit users capacitors and active modules, because it means more micro management. However, I feel like Active modules and Capacitor would make the game much more deep, enjoyable and intense, IF DONE RIGHT.
First of all, lets start with Capacitor: All suits have a powercore, which is where CPU/PG comes from. Now, it also generates capacitor. First of all, we already have a capacitor, kind of. You see that Stamina meter? From now on, its capacitor, and it is required for almost everything. Sprinting, Jumping, Firing your gun (I'll get to that later), activating modules, using equipment etc'.
Sprinting: I suggest to cut the sprint usage of capacitor by 90%, as it is now used by everything.
Jumping: Cut it by 80%, for same reason. However a bit less of a cut because I don't want to see bunny hoppers.
Firing your gun: Takes miniscule amounts of energy from the suit, I'll get to that later.
Activating modules: Capacitor use is according to what the module is, its level, etc'.
Equipment: Same as modules. Only with equipment that stays on you, like active scanner, remote rep and nanite injector.
Wait, you said firing my gun will drain my capacitor?: Yup. Here is how it goes: Minmatar weapons slow down your capacitor recharge, but it still recharges even while firing. Gallente/Caldari weapons stop your recharge. Amarr weapons drain your capacitor, at the same speed as sprinting does.
For all of these, you must have 5% capacitor to start firing.
This is to make Dust a bit more tactical. If you sprint for too long, or bunny hop, you won't be able to fire your gun for too long.
Now, you won't be COMPLETELY cut off from using your weapon. Weapons will have internal storage separate from the suit, but they still recharge from the suit. So even if you sprint for long, you will still be able to fire a bit. However, all weapons will DRAIN this storage, just like Amarr weapons do to the suit storage.
Alright, what about active modules?: Active modules will be like equipment, only that they aren't equipped in your hand, and fit into low/medium slots. You can either activate/disable them the same way you activate equipment, or you can do it in a more automated way.
Automation?: This is the main part of this idea, and it solves the complexity and micromanagement problem. After you fit a module on your suit, you will be able to tweak their automation as needed. For example, armor hardeners will have these options: 1. When do you want to activate the module? a. When I spawn. b. When I take any damage. c. When I take a specific type of damage (it splits off into weapon damage, impact damage, etc') d. When I lose my shields and reach armor e. When I'm at 75% armor f. 50% armor g. 25% armor
2. For how long do you want to keep it active? a. 5 seconds b. 10 seconds c. 15 seconds d. etc' seconds e. Forever f. 1 second
Suits capacitor amount and recharge: Amarr suits - Highest amount of capacitor Gallente/Caldari suits - Medium amount of capacitor Minmatar suits - Low amount of capacitor
Light suits - Low amounts of capacitor, fast recharge, have a bonus to sprint and jump capacitor usage, allowing them to sprint just as long as they do now.
Medium suits - Medium amount of capacitor, medium recharge.
Heavy suits - High capacitor, slow recharge. Have a bonus to weapon capacitor usage and tanking modules capacitor usage.
This way, you can have active modules, don't have to micromanage the suit, make customization deeper and make Dust a bit more of a tactical shooter, requiring you to balance your actions right. |

First of all you have tons and tons of good ideas but this is not one of them, this would just make things complicated with little in return, more tactical game experience but I would see players (especially new ones) just getting confused by this system and then leaving.
Capacitor system works in EVE but I don't see it working on a fast paced FPS game. |

Capacitor system works in EVE but I don't see it working on a fast paced FPS game. Which is why I added automation. With proper tutorials, this will help the game immensely to feel less like COD514. |

Not sure about dropsuits, but if you think about it, stamina = capacitor. Once we get nosferatu, it could drain stamina on suits and capacitor on vehicles. |

Well I see this more of a vehicle thing rather than dropsuit thing. Most of the new players would be appalled by the system and would perform even worse in the actual battles.
But I guess that could be solved with tutorials... |
