Where's the logic in that?
I don't mind having a 1v1 firefight with a Tac AR user while I use my laser(with me winning most of the time). But when getting hit and my laser not being able to get any hitmarkers due to range, that's bogus. I would understand a Sniper being out of my range. A laser should have more range then any assault rifle especially an assault rifle that has a better sight. |

does not make sense that the TAR outdamages all weapons at all ranges (well except that forge gun luck shots beyond 80m )
I fully expect the TAR to be nerfed. |

It's not bullets but plasma which dissipates after a certain distance, unlike a laser which is an ongoing beam of superheated light.
The combat rifle is going to be projectile based and so is the gauss rifle. Scrambler rifle is energy based and all(including laser) should have farther ranch then a plasma rifle. |

Laser rifles make me sad. I hate seeing things I love being almost useless. I think the damage is good for all three and I have used all three. The heat buildup is a little fast and the overheat damage is almost excessive, I did not skill into a suit that has a role bonus to either of those areas so I can't cry. I do however have a big problem with the range, I think the range is too short and to the point of breaking the weapon. I have been biomassed a few times by a TAC while being on target with a LR. I don't know the actual numbers but in my mind even the standard LR should out range the TAC with level 3 SS. At Levels four and five for AR SS the standard laser should be having problems with range but the advanced level LR should out range the TAC lvl 5 SS just a little. I want to see some numbers. |

Oh I'm sorry I'm not a genius and don't know all the technical aspects of a laser. Why don't you enlighten me, Mr. Physicist as to what a laser is in a "videogame" so I can sleep better at night.

So what you're saying is heavies are going to be obsolete again? :(
...Until CCP adds a heavy weapon with gloriously fun amounts of splash damage. That **** is gonna be awesome. And whatever heavy Amarr laser rifle they come up with. That **** will be ****. Seriously can't wait for it.

Since there isn't a gauss rifle and sniping is a **** now, there's no real effective counter to lasers. Seems to be working as intended for the time being. On a side note, the TAR really feels like it should be a Caldari weapon. |

Actually I dont think the TAC is OP....the problem is some of the weapons were nerfed too hard.
Lasers should have the same range as the TAC with a broad window of really good dmg. Right now the window is 60-80 meters??? I think thats what someone noted. I think the TAC can hit ppl out to what 100 meters? The Laser should also hit out to 100 meters (or same range as TAC) and I believe that the efficiency window should be from either 60-100 (if max range on TAC is 100) or 50-90 (if max range is 90 for TAC).
At this time its hard to call TAC OP when we are about to get scrambler rifles that do more base dmg per shot than the TAC and it will have a charge feature that does an unknown amount of dmg (but could possibly be an insta kill on militia grade suits). |

Heavy will probably be obsolete for a long time, since in the general mind set the HMG can't have better stats than the AR. Even though they have big spread countering the range (if HMG would have long range), Slow dropsuit which are required to use the gun, no equipment slots, lower H L slot count. We do have lot of HP, which counter the slowness at some point but even then a AR with 4 dmg mod wont see a difference... They will balance things out, so we will see.

TAR is superior to every other weapon. it should be inferior to LR at LR range and it should not be superior to AR at regular AR range. the TAR is supposed to be able to project the damage farther out but not to be superior than everything else.
also there is an easy counter to LR => close range. |

Major issue with the Tac AR isn't the existance of the weapon, or the combination os stats, but that it falls under the Gallante AR skill ( Which is what we should rename this skill to ).
Laser and Scrambler Rifle are their own skill trees, but the Tac AR falls in with all the other blaster rifles in the AR skilltree. If the Tac AR gets nerfed, one of the other ARs can be used, If the laser gets nerfed you are just **** out of luck.
The Caldari Rail Rifle will fill this role once it is released is my hunch.

Yeah, that damn thing needs a wider hip fire spread and maybe a smaller clip and ammo capacity. But it still doesn't fit into the plasma rifle range. If they called it a Gauss rifle I could accept the range but the LR still needs a bit of love. |

If it becomes a gauss rifle, it'll be nuked from the AR line and given its own skill tree as a Caldari weapon. Damage values would be altered to 100%/100% to shield/armor, At least two more variants (breach would suck) would be added with different ROF, ranges and base damage. It'd still be a hybrid weapon though so it would fit in Caldari and Galllente suit bonuses, but as a rail weapon instead of phased plasma. |

Historically (since introduction of LR) ARs have had always slightly longer range than AR. However, because LR is most effective at it's max range while ARs become weaker, most people have thought that LR has longer range.
TAC AR, as a long range rifle, is okay to have longer range. However I'd advise against comparing and balancing LR against TAC AR of all the ARs as it it's currently quite broken.

Not a physicist, but a laser is not "an ongoing beam of superheated light", christ I've met children that knew better than that. a laser is simply a concentrated stream of radiation released in a directed fashion.
Laser: a device that utilizes the natural oscillations of atoms or molecules between energy levels for generating a beam of coherent electromagnetic radiation usually in the ultraviolet, visible, or infrared regions of the spectrum
^merriam-webster's dictionary definition.
sorry that I got to this in the morning, I apologize for all your lost sleep. Then again, considering your previous response, it probably would have done very little for your cognitive functions anyways.
also, the laser rifle in this game is technically 3 individual lasers, and an "optic spacer" that focuses all 3 on a single point. as the weapon is fired, the blending and focusing portion of the weapon(optic spacer) suffers heat buildup and if not vented(normally a failsafe is in place to vent the weapon automatically) causes feedback, sometimes lethal. of course venting it causes to spacer to get warped out of shape due to rapid cooling and on firing again, it must recalibrate back to each individual laser. |

Going even further than that, it is a Blaster type plasma weapon, which has even shorter range than a Autocannon type weapon, which has an even shorter range than a Pulse type weapon, which has even less range than a Beam type weapon, which is what a Laser Rifle is IIRC. So yea, TAR be whack, yo. :p
Or in English, Assault Rifles should not be able to touch Laser Rifle users at a Laser Rifle's maximum range, with the TARs maybe being able to do so, and even then JUUUUUUUUUUUUST barely, only because their goal in life is to be a Blaster with decent range. |
