Seeing as skills and items only give a buff to sprint speed and doesn't affect movement speed I find it odd that armor would affect both. I think it would help balance out armor to apply the penalty ONLY to the sprint speed. Currently armor plates are counter productive as the majority of EHP comes from strafing to break hit detection and putting on anything bigger than one enhanced or two basic plates completely destroys an armor assault ability to strafe putting it at a huge disadvantage. I personally feel that placing the penalty on sprint speed only will keep armor slower than shields but leaves them with the same combat effectiveness. |

While items modify sprint speed now there is no reason this will always be the case. EVE has examples of modules that boost your base speed, so its something we could see at some point down the line. This should at least be considered.
The penalty comes from EVE, but the combat in DUST is much faster, so the same penalties might not work as well.
How do you find the penalty for fitting a single plate?
How do you find the penalty for fitting multiple plates?
I'm asking because I wonder if the problem in the magnitude of the penalty (making stacking detrimental) or is it in the type of penalty that is the problem?

"ten percent penalty to movement speed"
The scout gets told its going to take 11 seconds to get there instead of ten seconds.....big deal lol! The heavy gets told its going to take 11 MINUTES to get there instead of ten minutes.....poor fat guy. |

The reason the armor penalty is a big issue isn't getting from Point A to Point B, it's the negative affect it has on your lateral movements. I'm sure you've noticed that when you engage a player from the imperfects they never stand still and shoot at you, rather they strafe side to side or in a circle in order to dodge your bullets. The problem is this is the most effective defense and where most of your effective hit points comes from. So in all reality when you take a movement penalty you are actually taking a penalty on your HP.
For example one complex plate reduces movement speed by 10% which makes you feel like a semi truck when strafing against a shield tanked player and in reality makes you 10% easier to hit. I would NEVER put a complex plate on an assault, it makes movement way to slow and lateral movement way to clunky.
How do you find the penalty for fitting a single plate?
Depends on which plate. Putting 1 complex plate on makes you feel like your playing a shield tanked heavy in an assault frame. Putting any more than 1 enhanced plate on gives you the same feeling even when you combine it with a basic plate. Any more than 2 Basic plates puts you at 9% run penalty which feels just as bad as 10%.
How do you find the penalty for fitting multiple plates?
Anything more than stacking 2 basic plates makes you feel like a shield tanked heavy in an assault suit.
if the problem in the magnitude of the penalty (making stacking detrimental) or is it in the type of penalty that is the problem?
The problem can be solved 2 ways in my opinion by either lowering the penalty to 1% / 3% / 5% or by removing the penalty from your regular movement speed and only applying it to your sprint speed. The root of the problem is that lateral movement speed is the heart of gunfights in this game with it playing a much larger role than your overall HP in many situations, and apply such a large penalty on it completely ruins armor tanking for any assault who is not trying to pretend to be a heavy. |

Or, give us a ****ing armor honeycombing skill:
-1% movement speed per level when equipping armor
Scouts, assaults, and logi can go as high as advanced without a penalty and heavy can use complex without it being a huge hindrance. |

1% would be to much considering at lvl 5 basic plated would give us +2% run speed lol. Honeycombing should cut the penalty in half which would be 1.5% / 2.5% / 5%. |

Would you think a penalty to stamina, instead of move speed would be a better fit? So instead of slowing you down you burn through stamina faster, since its more work to get those plates moving. |

"ten percent penalty to movement speed" The scout gets told its going to take 11 seconds to get there instead of ten seconds.....big deal lol! The heavy gets told its going to take 11 MINUTES to get there instead of ten minutes.....poor fat guy. Actually this is a mathematical fallacy. A 10% penalty to a larger number is more significant than a 10% penalty to a smaller number. So actually the armor plating penalty does the most damage to a light suit. My buddy runs heavy and he stacks all his low slots with complex armor plates and he's pretty much the same exact speed as he was before. Armor plating favors heavies.
That said I agree it is weird that there is no skill or mod to increase basic movement speed. Another suggestion I heard was make the penalty on stamina instead of movement speed.
