Hey,
been playing for a long time, and I should know this but I thought I'd ask.
What is the difference of proto Gallente Medium and proto Gallente Assault. I am not getting the thought process behind the two.
At first I assumed the Medium suits were kind lower variants and I didn't even look at them and skilled up to Advanced Gallente Assault with the respec. And assumed the new direction CCP had taken was kind of a longer path to the proto we were used to in chromo.
Then I kind of felt, well this G/1 is pretty ordinary, and I still have a way to go to get to proto Assault.
When skimming around in the Dropsuit Marketplace, I see to my surprise I have access to Proto Medium, buy a couple and they are vastly better than my G/1.
I don't want to bother with a million numbers in a spreadsheet to figure this out. Is the suit tree a ladder, and every suit above is better than the one below, or are these sidegrades and I can do as well by just going proto modules and skipping the proto Assault.
Also, I hear all kinds of lorey reasons why Gallente is Armor, and others are Shield. Is this "RP" or are the high slots/low slots that meaningfully different? I honestly just chose Gallente because old four-eyes looks like murder in a can.

Only difference between medium frame and assault is the passive bonus. |

You get the 25% shield recharge bonus which is useless on a Gallente suit and better fitting with your hybdrid weapons which you could of gone to other less pricey skills to get the same effect. Gallente Assault is pointless, sorry to tell you.
However, they will most likely change the assault suit bonuses. And there is going to be an optional respec soon so look out for that. |

I am still wagering that "useless" in veteran dust terms is a loose translation of "not the singular most efficient choice of fittings"
2-3 complex extenders coupled with the 25% boost, and I skip the shield recharger, and then a couple of armour plates/repair modules. Maybe a little slow, but pretty durable.
Am I doing it so wrong that I need to respec? |

You're not doing it wrong at all, there is no wrong. But not every Gallente guy wants to go into shield extenders, and right now with the skill bonus you don't see much of any benefit if you do. So it's like saying you are wrong if you don't skill into shield extenders and should probably respec.
I think everyone would agree that since armor and shields hold different values to different races, the universal bonuses to a specialized suit should stray away from both. |
