So, I threw a point into active scanners, after being fed up with the revive system and the way nano-injectors only seem to work 50% of the time. I digress, anyway, active scanners are cool. HOWEVER, I have run across some issues.
1) Standard Flux Active Scanners, says range is 150 meters, in reality? 50 meters. You can tell by the ping wave on the radar as compared to the 100 meter Standard Active Scanner. 2) Angles, trying to scan anyone that has a vertical position on you greater than about 15 meters does not get lit up or scanned by your scanner. I've tried and tried and tried from all angles and distances and could not get this one guy to light up. He didn't evade my scan, just didn't get scanned at all. 3) Similar to issue 2; scanning only seems to work 75% of the time. Again, people aren't evading your scan, just not getting scanned at all. 4) Warpoints? What's that? None given to helping your team find and eliminate targets. This is a stretch, but would a +5 wp for scan assists be so bad? 5) Targets do not stay lit up by the amount the tool says they do. 8 seconds? More like one. I feel like sonar, pinging dots on my radar and guessing where they are afterwards. 6) 60 degrees....30 degrees...degrees of what? Is this a cone projected from the tip of the tool? You'd think, right? But issue number 2 suggests otherwise.
I still recommend them, being a LogiBro. It's quite satisfying lighting up a redberry jam pile for your squad to call in an OB on. |

Kaze Eyrou wrote:Actually you're wrong on the range on Flux. It is 150 meters. I know this from experience using and seeing the difference between Active Scanner and Flux Scanner.
The reason you see it go a small distance is the UI shows the "ping" at the same speed. What you are seeing is that the scanning time is only 1 second instead of 2 (from base scanner) and UI ping is only able to show half the distance.
More to follow (sorry I only read part of your post. Back to reading)
Ahhh I wasn't aware of the UI distance difference. Thanks for clearing that up. Either way though, it still seems to not want to work half the time haha. |

Snaps Tremor wrote:I know CCP have already stated they want to offer rewards for scanning, but it's going to need to be more intelligent than just throwing change on the floor every time someone presses fire with a scanner while hiding behind a wall.
(Unless they implement a new system called Peace Points. You can roll AFK gain into this as well.)
Indeed, it must be handled carefully. I was thinking of a kill assist type of system, but just with scanners. The WP gain would be small, +5 or even +1. Not mandatory at all, but it would be nice to see a little reward and encouragement for using it. |

However! On a related note, it does come up in big neon signs say 'You were scanned.' which is a little silly, in my opinion. Currently, it keeps people in cover by scanning them constantly, thinking they are about to walk into an ambush. Pretty funny to pin down a squad with a scanner alone. :P |

Kaze Eyrou wrote:Lordbraveheart wrote:-snip- Ah ok. Hmm that does seem interesting, Especially because I can't see a heavy running multiple profile dampners. But yeah. Message of some margin of error pops up. Well maybe scanning elevation is weird. Need to do more testing with that. But from the small amount of scanning people on pipes at Ashland, they've picked up on my scans some of the time. Other times they pick up but don't show. "some margin of margin" message.
It also makes me wonder...50% of the time it works 100% of the time? Is it consistent results or does the action of the individual being scanned play a part if they show up or not? For example, running versus crouched static position; does this make a difference? Oh CCP, such knowledge you hide from us! :P |

Kaze Eyrou wrote:You sure cool down is only 2? I could have sworn it was 5. (can't check right now cause not at ps3.) Yes, cooldown before being able to actively scan is only two seconds for Standard Active Scanners. Unsure about more advanced models... |

Zion Shad wrote:BIG Thanks on the Review bro. Scanners was something I spect out back in the day before they were gone and was scared to try them again. I hope your feedback is put to good use and that CCP and the CPM take notice. Cheers mate, thanks for the support! I don't see many Active Scanner threads so I was hoping to bring these issues into light. They just need a slight tweak and they'd be perfect. |
