Because of the vehicle problems, I was forced to be a SP deficient noob again. Over the course of playing in Skirmishes and Ambushes as a Militia-equipped soldier, the game itself (people I play with are great) is not fun. I found myself for the most part useless. That is as long as you do not count being a weak, quick, and easy kill for your adversary a use. The way the game is setup at present, where the greatest asset is time spent actively playing, those coming in new need another option other than jumping straight into PvP. That is because this game is entirely competitive, and for 99% of new players it has been made impossible for them to compete. Which amounts to not a heck of a lot of fun. A PvE option where players can make real progress while learning their weapons, modules, and fittings without getting pummeled continuously would be a step in the right direction.

+1 for a combat training type mod, but maybe for limited times a day so people don't just spam them to get creds |

I'm feeling the same pain. Vehicals go up in smoke very quickly for the price you have to pay for them. PvE would help me blow some steam and recoup from losses because at least if I die in PvE I know its my fault and not the feeling of helplessness I get now without all the proto suits running around.

this may address your concerns
Instant Battle Academy
CCP Nullarbor wrote:On Tuesday 14th of May we will be enabling a special instant battle queue for new players called the Instant Battle Academy. Entry to these battles will be limited by total war points earned per character and will prevent older players from joining. New players will not be presented with the existing instant battle queues however they can join a squad with veteran players and be pulled into other battles. Faction warfare and planetary conquest battles will also still be available to new players.
This is a first step at improving the new player experience. We are also working on a vastly improved matchmaking system which is designed to better separate players based on their actual skill level instead of just isolating new players. We will hopefully be rolling that out in an expansion later this year.
You may notice I have not mentioned the exact criteria for being a new player and I am very interested in hearing how many skill points, war points, battles or any other metric you would use to determine what constitutes a "newbie". Remember the goal is to give new players enough time to understand the game not necessarily become proficient at it. So if you have any thoughts on that please reply here.

Without a PvE or noncompetitive mode the game will struggle to grow because of problems with new player retention. Like business, games that stop growing start to die. And if noncompetitive aspect are included, they will cannibalize the micro transaction model in place. Now that I am thinking, sounds like a catch-22. Best bet is to make the game amazing (which it is not right now) continue to add social aspects as well as adding these new features/game modes as unlockable with AUR (sort of like DLC). |

Good question. If people are not competing with each other, with game difficulty, or socially there is no reason to sacrifice something of great value (money). There are not many single player games, that i know of, that survive on micro-transactions because there is no one to impress, beat, or barriers to playing with friends. Peoples' need to look cooler, be stronger, faster, and all together more amazing is not ignited as often by battling AI individually as it is in a social and/or competitive environment. What I did forget, is hopefully mercs would go back to PvPing. But what I am assured of, is there will be extremely low desire to pay to win (Aurum Tanks and the like) when battling an AI. |

If you got some PvE issues or ideas by all means throw em up here as well :D
https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=49714&find=unread
As for implementation, I'd probably suggest making PvE both something you find AND that you need other players to actually succeed (although if people want to solo they'll just have to suit up extraordinarily well...MT solved?...and it may take longer than it's worth)
And further explain the "find" element, I'd suggest making it something that you can be rewarded from a FW or a Corp Objective (such as the ones mentioned in the post above) upon which completed you are offered coordinates to a special PvE mission...out in deep space...on a wrecked battleship...*oooooh scary* ^^ |
