Because of the vehicle problems, I was forced to be a SP deficient noob again. Over the course of playing in Skirmishes and Ambushes as a Militia-equipped soldier, the game itself (people I play with are great) is not fun. I found myself for the most part useless. That is as long as you do not count being a weak, quick, and easy kill for your adversary a use. The way the game is setup at present, where the greatest asset is time spent actively playing, those coming in new need another option other than jumping straight into PvP. That is because this game is entirely competitive, and for 99% of new players it has been made impossible for them to compete. Which amounts to not a heck of a lot of fun. A PvE option where players can make real progress while learning their weapons, modules, and fittings without getting pummeled continuously would be a step in the right direction.

Without a PvE or noncompetitive mode the game will struggle to grow because of problems with new player retention. Like business, games that stop growing start to die. And if noncompetitive aspect are included, they will cannibalize the micro transaction model in place. Now that I am thinking, sounds like a catch-22. Best bet is to make the game amazing (which it is not right now) continue to add social aspects as well as adding these new features/game modes as unlockable with AUR (sort of like DLC). |

Can you explain how Noncompetitive aspects would hurt micro transactions.
Good question. If people are not competing with each other, with game difficulty, or socially there is no reason to sacrifice something of great value (money). There are not many single player games, that i know of, that survive on micro-transactions because there is no one to impress, beat, or barriers to playing with friends. Peoples' need to look cooler, be stronger, faster, and all together more amazing is not ignited as often by battling AI individually as it is in a social and/or competitive environment. What I did forget, is hopefully mercs would go back to PvPing. But what I am assured of, is there will be extremely low desire to pay to win (Aurum Tanks and the like) when battling an AI. |
