Does anyone else have the impression, that the whole scanning shebang doesn't work as one would suspect?
I posted a request yesterday, regarding buildings and vehicles being invisible to the scanner, until they are allready in direct view. Since then i put some more thoughts into it, and noticed, that there are yet other things related, that seem off to me. I'd like to hear other people opinions on the matter.
For example the visibility off uplinks: Before uprising, enemy uplinks were very hard to spot. Sometimes you'd miss one, even if it was laying just 2m from you. Now they are marked on your radar from far away, even if placed on higher ground or behind a corner. The first one was anoying at times, but allowed for infiltration tactics. Those don't work anymore lately, at least for me. Makes it even harder to turn around a redlined game.
Regarding the invisibilty of buildings and vehicles to the passiv scanner: It actually concerns suits as well. Basicially, without an activ scanner you get only infos on your radar about things you or a teammate can allready see with ye owne eyes. Nothing appaers that is located behind you, an objekt, or at your sides, unless it is very, very close. Which in itself isn't necessarily a bad thing, i think. More a certain style of gameplay. One that actually caters to me personally, most of the times, since i like to run around with an assault suite and a breach shotgun. It does seem odd tho, again for example, when it comes to situations where the biggest thread a certain tank poses, is its ability to sneak up on one. The general invisibility to passiv radar (which i assume was so consequently implimented to make the new activ scanner more usefull) also highly reduces the attractiveness of modules that alter scan related stats. Like reducing the suits scanprofile. And lastly it makes those stats less interesting, when it comes to different suit sizes. A heavy is as invisible as a scout to my radar, unless he is in front of me, and than it doesn't matter anyway.
TL;DR: What are your thoughts on passiv and activ scanning? |

Interesting... I know things are different now but I'm not entirely sure what the heck is up.
If it's all going to be "eyes on" in the longer term then I may not bother to go into the scout suit for sniping -- and just stick with the general suits. |

Yeah, right now it seems hardly worth it, to me at least, except for flavor and/or quicker feet, of course.
Also, this thread drowned pretty damned fast in this rampant, pretentious and self-seeking sea, that is this forum. I should have started it with a scream or a fart or something. |

I like that Scanning is important, I realize now i didn't spend enough on it, I wonder when I spend more how much better my radar gets. What I think is wrong is:
When I am trying to keep a box between me and a HAV why can't i see it on my radar? It's a Freaking TANK I can hear it why cannot my super advanced suit electronics put it on my radar? (HAV have their own problems right now I sympathize I hope you'all get relevant) but fixed emplacements, LAV, HAVs all should be always viable when within throwing range...CCP Feel free to make stealth modules for HAVs and LAVs. |
