Been playing FPS since Doom95 and still regularly play Quake II Arena and SOCOM with friends. The current changes actually want me to stay more than ever. Most of us FPS OGs that have grown up with the best of the best the FPS genre had to offer have been watching the casual decline in quality of games over the decades. Everything has gone into more of a twitch direction thanks to CoD and Battlefield. Personally, I still like the original Halo over the crap that's been coming out now that Bungee isn't at the helm. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to play MAG at the height of its popularity, but from what friends and corp mates have told me, I would have loved it. Dust 514 is different, very different from most of the current gen FPS. But in a breath of fresh air good way and the less twitch more strafe elements compiled with stats being more important in Uprisng makes me want to stay more. There's a steep learning curve and element of challenge between SP skill and player skill that makes it shine over the rest. Engagements aren't just determined by who can left click or press R1 the fastest, but who can maintain their aim and track their target the most. This new direction taken in Uprising has exposed a lot of twitch players for having a weak gun game. They've been spoiled by casual FPS for so long that they don't know how to recover and just quit. In a way, Dust 514 has raised the bar for what an FPS should be like while throwing in character building and customization to fit ones playstyle. Twitchers can fit themselves to gank and those with better gun game can fit to tank. So in a way it's more balanced to different skillets for different type of FPS players while bringing in the MMORPG crowd who are better stat mongers. I've been here and I'm going to continue to be here and I hope many of you do the same. Dust 514 has a lot of potential and we need more variety in the FPS genra than what Activision spits out every year. |

Dust 514 has a lot of potential and we need more variety in the FPS genra than what Activision spits out every year. Your giving yourself away buddy by saying "casual" and socom in same paragraph. EVERY FPS has some twitch action to it. tho others more then most. It's called "thinking on the fly" or "quick reaction". Those are skills. Its the reason why protos that were never great fps players go down against advance suits like me. Cause we are able to do those "COOL MOVES" that bring in the wins. How would you feel if the flood gates got opened and MANY OF THE CORE FPS PLAYERS THAT OPENED THE DUST BETA AND HAD SP COOKING CAME BACK WITH ADVANCE SUITS? That's what many casual fps and mmo lovers don't want. cause to them, this is there FPS. EVEN IF BY FPS STANDARDS ITS CRAPPY. All you've done is reiterate my exact point. Dust brings different skillets on an equal battlefield. It's called balancing or skill: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EitZRLt2G3w Your gun game was still able to outclass that proto even though he had superior tech. But if he was better fitted to specifically counter your fitting, he might have won instead. On that same token, if you had full proto and him advanced, but he was fitted to exploit your fitting's weakness, he still has a chance to win the engagement. There's a lot of counter play and meta game in Dust. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRBcjsOt0_g
PS I think your caps lock key is broken. |

What is a 'core' fps? I played Doom, Ken's Labyrinth, Wolfenstein (not RTCW), Quake, when they were new. These were some of the earlier FPS'. Does that make me a core fps players? These games like socom, mag, planetside 2, tribes, BF....these are all late-comers! But even Doom, et al, were not the earliest. So you say every FPS "knows that". But, I really don't know what a core FPS player is, and whether or not playing COD makes you one. Man, Wolfeinstein, that takes me back. Remember when Duke Nukem 3-D was the ****? |

Being able to make direct ports to console put it ahead of its time. I think I still have my Sega Saturn and import of Powerslave in my attic somewhere... |

Anyway, cod 4 was good. And in my mind so was world at war. But like madden it starting dropping the ball. I'll let the madden and cod players explain why.
Nice back peddling, good hustle. I heard the Redskins might release Deangelo Hall again. Maybe you should try out. Lol. |

Lets not even get started on HAV. Since almost nobody had the SP left over to invest in AV, you better damn well be glad he was on your side. |

Snaps Tremor wrote:Core FPS players seem to be constantly furious, and mostly having a bad time. They speak as if their personal experience is the only thing that exists, and make a lot of weirdly childish whining noises for people so enamoured with the idea of being a badass murdersoldier.
Luckily, there is another type of gun-based gamer who likes to throw a bit of brain into their game. They play games that contain actual tactics like Flashpoint, MAG, SOCOM, Red Orchestra etc and on average they tend to be a lot more sociable and worth getting to know.
So, personally, I'd be fine if zero core FPS players were still here. It'll be easier for the devs to tell what really needs attention without all the personal tantrums obscuring the real issues, and the player base will improve in quality overnight to the point where word of mouth will start bringing in the people looking for something a bit different.
Unfortunately, it sounds like they're going to market heavily to the former. I just hope they know what they're getting into. Exactly!
Devs need to stop appealing to the basement dwellers with their snobbish sense of self entitlement and do something about their crutch: The AR. First off, they need to rename the damn thing back to the Caldari Plasma Rifle to alleviate all the confusion of "Deerrrr, it's a rifle, why duz it only goe 5o meters?" and other arguments where they try to bring real world aspects into a futuristic setting. Did you know that since day 1 the AR has out DPSed every single light weapon in the game. This was intentional. They want these little ADHD spoiled brats to have some kind of unfair advantage. It's why heavies have been **** slapped by the nerf bat repeatedly like a red headed step child, the scrambler rifle lost its head shot bonus, tanks got nerfed to the point that LAVs are stronger and just about anything else that isn't a damn plasma rifle can't even compete with it. They cry about everything and anything that makes the feel the slightest bit threatening enough to make their little epeens go flacid enough to jelq with.
And why cater to the lowest common denominator? Sure they're going to generate numbers and maybe a few dollars if they ask their mommies nice enough but they aren't going to stick around. OP just pointed that out. They're going to leave for whatever watered down instant gratification granting AAA floozie that's going to put out for $60 and her ugly sister DLC for another $30. The ones that know what Dust is about are going to stick around because we understand that Dust is that girl you got to talk to, get to know, go on a few dates with, move in with and... you get the point. Dust is a commitment and these little casuals are afraid of it.

You are only baiting the question with seemingly logical input until someone (@Cosgar hizself) gives you a reasonable answer. Then you devolve into a low brow attack with CAPS to prove your intellectual superiority. Unfortunately, it proves the inverse. Angry Birds awaits you, Kitten. Don't Surt seriously. I know I stopped after he tried to argue that Dust needs to be a 100% FPS because the Unreal Engine is strictly for FPS lol. |
