Gallente kinda sucks when it comes to tanking suits it seems. Seems like you found your playstyle then. That's usually the hardest thing to do is find out what works for you. Gallente suits can armour tank well but thier plethora of low slots allows more then just tanking options though. There are some very interesting builds where those low slots will be used quite extencively. Hopefully you'll find some ways to experiment with your fitting. If you want some help feel free to send me a mail in game. well from what iv seen he cant tank better than a heavy around the same speed doing the same role, and if thats case the suits probably going to be stealth suit when cloaking comes.
The thing is that the medium suits don't fill the same role as the heavy. Even the assaults get an equipment slot and while that may seem kinda "whoopty do," that equipment slot makes all the differance in your options available to you. Active scanners are really making an impact on battlefield information while nanohives and injectors are very handy for squad sustainability.
You can't just look at it as simply "defence and firepower" when comparing the dropsuits. While the heavies are very powerful suits, they are easily detectable by scanners and have no equipment slots so they rely on other sqaud members to support them. If your role in the squad is simply to do the most damage or to take the most hits, then yes, the heavy will be better suited to you. Otherwise the medium suits will be a much better compromise as while you sacrifice the sheer tanking and heavy weapons selection of heavy suits, you can still function as some level of squad support. Using a clever mix of assault suits, you can cover every peice of gear you need with a little overlap in more important areas like revival.
This is also not-withstanding other modules which can help in certain senarios, such as hacking, which can greatly improve a squads effectiveness.
Going back to the Gallente Assault suit, if you tank it to be close to the speed of a heavy then you can run with a heavy squad-mate and provide nanohives for the both of you. You never have to worry about getting too far ahead of him and you'll still beable to take quite the beating yourself, while your downside of moving slower ends up being a bit less of a downside since you're matching speed with your heavy counterpart so your unit is moving slower as a group to begin with.
Hope this helps you to look at more of the options available to you. |
