Now when you shoot the person on your screen, it doesn't actually mean you are hitting them. This is because all hits are tracked server side, as well as everyone on screen besides yourself. Thats why we have to lead our shots, even though the game is hit-scan.
However, aim assist does not to my knowledge attempt to stick on the persons server-side location, nor could it. It's a client-side feature.
if a target is strafing at high speed, aim assist will always push you to their last known location on your client, which is always a false location in reality.
Aim assist would, in fact, be attempting to ensure you always miss your target, provided they are in motion at all.

This is why I turn aim assist off. It's a hindrance in most cases. |

well if hit detection was client side, the problem would be solved... |

well if hit detection was client side, the problem would be solved... And aimbots and hacks would show up within minutes and the game would be screwed for those of us who don't cheat.
Also, a passive aim assist wouldn't be screwed by the current mechanics, because it doesn't make it significantly harder to keep your aim ahead of your target.
But aim assist off was broken last time I tried, and made CQC literally impossible for me. |

Am I incorrect with this? DING DING DING, you got it. Turn off aim assist and see how much better you do. I mentioned this in another thread but it got washed away. Aim assist is a crutch that targets visible targets. Now if the game uses visible targets for hit detection then this would be awesome. DUST has new serverside architecture, the reason I only play on American servers now, and aim assist fucks you. Turn it off. This is the problem that everyone is having with their aiming. Aim assist is wonky, and I even noticed it using a KB/M setup. |
