To go along with this: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=779388#post779388 the Laser Rifle also needs its optimal extended. Currently the Lasers optimal is half that of a standard AR, and from what I can see does not get extended as you go up to proto. Due to its small optimal and shortened ranged from no sharpshooter, it is now very easy for someone to either simply step back out of your optimal or rush into your face and kill you. I can understand making the optimal 44 to 80 meters, however, I feel it would be more beneficial to make it from 62 to 98 meters. The reasoning for this is the Duvolle Tactical AR (which is still a "short range" blaster) reaches out to 100 meters. Being that the laser is supposed to be a mid to long range weapon, it only makes sense to extend the optimal out instead of in. It also would keep standard ARs dominating it in their optimal range. |

Sadly I actually agree with the damage nerf on the Viziam. Don't get me wrong, I love my laser! But in Chromosome I was regularly tearing people up with the STD Laser with only 1 damage mod. Being able to go through more of the clip I feel is the major advantage of the Viziam. I do, however, wish that the gap of the heat build up is greater. I don't feel there is enough of a gap to truly make it advantageous. The Viziam with a proto Amarr Assault should make the Viziam never overheat. I truly feel that should be the advantage of spending so much SP and specializing into the role that much. |

That's definitely one of the problems right now is the heat build up. Once heated up it does crazy damage, which it should, but with current heat mechanics youre lucky to be able to even get it to full heat before overheating. That's why Id like to see the Viziam have even less heat build up, but only to the point where you have to have the Amarr Assault racial skill to 5 to be the only way to run it without over heat, and only on the Viziam. The other lasers should still overheat since they are of inferior quality. |

See that is part of the problem right now is the Tacs account for a majority of ARs and there is nothing to counter them because the laser does not have enough range. If the laser had its optimal extended there would be a balancing factor against them. |

This is something people have to understand about the laser though. It starts off at 17 points of damage, but once heated up it does massive damage per shot. That is the balancing factor of it. Ive heard rumor that at the end of the magazine a Viziam hits for 1000+ damage a shot (at least in Chromosome).
But you do bring up a good point. When ARs can hit you in your optimal for instant damage there is a problem. It makes it to where you don't have time to heat up the laser to do anything significant with it. Couple that with the sights and the fact that the lolTac has a nifty ACOG style scope, and the LR no longer really stands a chance against the AR, when it should really be the balancing factor against the lolTac. |
