SP is over-rated. They can give a great player an advantage, but without player skill its still useless. Look at the differnece in damage between proto and militia gear. What? 10%? Plus another few % from skills?
The only real advantage from SP (and thus equipment) is in health. You can legit double or triple active health. However, doing so will leave you with a lot less speed (only way to massively boost health is with armor plates). I maybe added 75% to my health with two complex shield extenders as an advanced scout. But I still have about the same health as a standard assault... |

Exactly. Core skills + advanced suit to fit some proto + advanced mods and weapons is pretty cheap, and isnt too far behind proto suits.

Yes, there is a new player issue for sure. Though I think that has more to do with the elite corp pub stomping and no matchmaking than skills and loadouts. A militia nade, militia AR still do a solid job of tearing apart most suits.
But a new player joining a game where an elite corp just stomps with 75 clones left at the end? Not fun. And the new guy has no idea that the reason it happened was because the other team consisted of two full squads, one from Imperfects, one from Pink Fluffy Bunnies.
Plus the lack of a super large playerbase means if they just play again right away they have a solid chance of playing with those same players... more stomps. Then they leave and never come back. |

Or you could just have a "Training Gametype" with vastly reduced ISK payouts. Maybe slightly reduced SP as well (maybe not though). Payouts of 20K-50K instead of 200-500, good players would stay away, without the need for any sort of automatic filters. New players would see training, join it, and not even realize they are getting less ISK and/or SP at first.
Also, no stats would count for it. Eliminating the desire to stomp to pad stats. |

Will only beat scrubs? Um no. Look at the simple math between proto and advanced gear. It helps. But a skilled player using pro it versus a skilled player using advanced isnt a guarentee by any means. The advanced user can still easily win depending on the context of the fight.
Honestly, just look at the numbers, the advantage isnt much, not enough to make it a must have. |
