We need a lot more than matchmaking to get new players to stay. It'd certainly help, though. |

And if it's selfish of me to ask that time not be wasted, then it's selfish for new players to ask that my time be wasted just so they can stand a chance. If they didn't want to get stomped by people in protogear, then why weren't they out their grinding during Open Beta? We pent time on this game, they didn't. This is either unfair to us or to them, but nothing about this situation is "fair"

Canari Elphus wrote:The problem is, as much as everyone talks about a big open sandbox, matches will always be within a tiny confined one of 16v16, 24v24 etc. Right now, as mentioned, there is nothing for new players to do other than to fall prey to the high SP guys. Unfortunately, this is not something that a reset will fix as its not like there will only be one time that new players will come into the game. We cant do a reset every time someone complains that they are getting beat up by higher tier players.
What CCP needs to do is think of a way where higher tier players have their own missions where they are a part of and others that are designed specifically for newberries. Think of it as newbs being your grunt soldiers and vets are your special forces.
I dont have the answer but something does need to be done to broaden the game. And im not saying i want a reset for everytime someone complains i keeo saying i only want one on the 14th since its launch |

I dont think its the problem of it being a BETA. The difference here is that with most console BETAs, you are playing at max a month or two and then get the full game. People have been playing for a long time. That aside, it still doesnt address the issue of what to do with new guys as it wont just be at release when you get people coming into the game.

Vets would have just stopped playing and then returned for commercial release. CCP used the fact that there would be no more resets as it's drawing point, obviously all the AFKers are proof that CCP's plan worked... sort of
Edit: Again, there would be no problem if CCP hadn't used SP to get people to keep playing the beta. |

Matchmaking IS a solution but, unfortunately, it is not one that is likely to be implemented within the next 5 days.
I understand why long tem vets would not want to lose all the stuff they've earned and, while it is admirable that CCP will likely stick to they're promise of no reset, I do believe that it is a decision that will ultimately hinder the potential success of their game.
I won't be "that guy" and say that not reseting after the Beta will kill the game, I just think that it will prevent it from becoming as successful as it could be, if they were to wipe everyone (and provide a full Aurum refund, of couse) prior to launch.
I think it will mean the difference between Dust becoming a very good game, or a GREAT game.
By letting the beta testers keep their stuff, they are catering to a relatively small number of hardcore players, at the at the expense of a potentially huge number of new players who will likely be become discouraged and frustrated at being thrown into matches against obviously more organized, pre-existing corporations full of more experienced, higher-skilled, pre-levelled players in far superior gear.
To me, this situation doesn't make for a very good first impression for the games launch. I predict a sudden surge in the population when the game goes "live", and then an equally rapid decline since, as a free game, there is no monetary commitment to encourage these new players to stick with it past their first, inevitably poor, impression. Many will feel intimidated by the apparent odds stacked against them and, realizing just how much grind and "work" this game involves to even begin to overcome these odds, will simply delete it and move on to something else.
Long story short: I honestly don't think CCP will go back on their word, and reset everyone at launch, but I truly believe that a full reset is absolutely necessary for the game to reach it's full potential.
It's too bad, because this could become a GREAT game, rather than just a very good one.
