I think even without sharpshooter, the ranges weren't this low, it's ridiculous.
Tactical Duvolle is only viable weapon presently. Which is ridiculous. |

I'm assuming you meant Sharpshooter Proficiency 3? cause thats about the only way this game will be playable agiain.
the only thing that doesn't need a range boost (or much of one) is laz0rs. However, sounds like those iron sights arent working too well either. |

Am I honestly the only person with 6mil+ who never went into sharpshooter? I didn't do it in chromosome so I have to say I like everyone coming to my general range. I have to admit though that I notice a slight damage falloff at ranges were I was okay at before. |

Also, I've never said the Duvolle Tac was open, it's just the only well balanced weapon whereas the rest just suck. |

I did spec light weapon sharpshooter to max and the profficency to level3 - this got the sniper rifle range to just over 800metres(+34% of base range). For a sniper rifle this should be medium range. The theoretical max range whould have been 838metres(+40% of base range). For a weapon system that can cover that range in 0.33 seconds, the range was lacking in the extreme. Snipers mostly made the best spotters for the flow of battle & can be useful for protection of critical assets by either counter-sniping or providing cover for other team members.
The base ranges for all weapons need to be adjusted to take in the phyisical properties of the weapons into account. For example, the base Forge Gun can cover its base range of 300metres in 0.04 seconds before its effectiveness is stopped. Its projectiles are shaped, kinetic impact rounds traveling at 7000mps they should keep going until, either, they hit something solid(be it wall, tank or armoured biological entity) or the combined forces of drag and gravity bring it down to the ground in a cloud of shrapnell.
Lasers should have near infinate range, this is light after all. (max speed 300000 Km/sec) Its the focusing mechanics that need to be looked at. |

Also longer range weapons are coming. Gallente weapons are, by definition, the shortest range/highest DPS guns in their respective class so all other racial variants should have matching/superior range but lower potential DPS. |

All weapons will eventually have an Absolute Range beyond their "Max" range so that you can still do damage at a penalty. |

The only changes that needed to be made regarding sharpshooter from the last build were to negate its effect on long range and cqc weapons and removal of the proficiency. While the new graphics are pretty... the major gameplay issues haven't been truly addressed and CCP nerfed our guns on the word of whiners who can't think tactically instead of telling them to HTFU like they should have. |

Its a range issue with the guns in this game. I only used the realism card to show the point i was trying to make. Its a range issue with the guns in this game. I understand and i explained to you why i think your point is moot. It is completely irrelevant to me how any of the weapons ingame compare to real ones or even anyones ability to throw things. How long ranges generally should be is subjective and open for discussion but claiming that falloff mechanics are gamebreaking needs more arguments than appealing to real world intuition.
This is not the real world, it doesn't have to behave like it where. It doesn't even have to try. It just has to provide fun and deep engagements and with all the flanking and sneaking up i see and do on the current battlefield i feel that this build does a way better job than the last.
Others have already said that absolute range is coming and i would like to stress that rails and projectiles are coming and will most likely sport longer ranges than current ARs. So there's still hope for people who don't enjoy the close combat twitchiness of the current guns. |

No, range is fine. I'm a AR player, I don't wanna be killed from every direction by every weapon.
If I'm killed by a sniper, he deserves the kill, because I was out in the open or not moving.
I don't wanna be sniped by ARs or HMGs. They get in range to kill me, and I try to do the same. Shotguns are close range weapons, and smgs are close to mid range. |
