I think its great. I've been gleefully watching people spam AUR-everything for weeks now. I figured people were under the collusion that all would be refunded and that they could pub-stomp with AUR without consequence. The fact that CCP is taking a harder stance on AUR refunds is quite honestly hilarious

To the OP - the whole point of the AUR refund/SP reset (i.e. going back to a new character) is to honor the ToS for the original Merc packs before the wording was changed. If you purchased after that, you should have read the agreement.
God I know right? I killed a guy using a Thale's Sniper Rifle 3 times in a match just prior to reset, each time confirmed that he lost the rifle. I was laughing my ass off the whole time. |

Well another point which is more important than I think people realized.
You use AUR, it gives you an edge in battle as well as saves you from spending a lot of ISK on the equivalent gear. Is it pay to win? Not really, but it does offer an inherit advantage. With that said, people who have used a lot of AUR have built up a lot more ISK than most as well some additional SP (Whatever marginal bonus you make by doing well in battle.)
Therefor, right now, AUR users are generally more wealthy than ISK users. If they refunded all of your AUR, you basically were able to earn all that extra ISK and SP with zero cost to you because you had all the AUR refunded. That gives you an unfair advantage to those who chose not to use AUR before, and therefor it would be unethical for CCP to refund the AUR to you.
They could in theory remove the extra SP and ISK that you were able to earn in exchange, but it would be impossible to accurately and fairly do that for everyone. Plus you guys would be crying about that anyways "MORE LIKE PAY 2 LOSE SP&ISK"
The reason they're offering refunds on AU before January is because that came before the last character wipe, which is not affected by the problem explained above.
Logic is OP. |
